You could try the Windows update troubleshooter. E.g. in Settings, search Trouble

Make sure you have not used any of the methods to disable Windows updates.

For news on each update, and to compare experiences, see the relevant thread in the News section.

Thanks dalchina, ran the trouble shooter and applied a fix. Still does not install the updates? Downloads the update 100% ,then installs the update 100%, then wants a reboot which I do. Computer reboots then I go to history and update failed? Not sure what to do next?

Hi, please advise the exact error message in particular any error number.

    Also do some basic checks:
    From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Then from an admin prompt run
    sfc /scannow
    This may take a while.

    Please report the result. Thanks.

    - Don't need the whole thing.. should be a short summary after it ran. Did it pass?

Typically if it fails, you see this:
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

And you can open CBS.log in Notepad and find 'Failed' 'Corrupt' 'not repair' e.g.

    And chkdsk?

Ran both, a Lot of problems and not sure why. After looking I see the updates have not worked since Dec. I did a image backup on the 1st of Dec and all was well, did a restore and downloaded all new updates and they all installed. Problem is fixed, not sure what the cause was. Did the scan again and all clear, time for another image backup. Thanks for you help dalchina, you saved the day.

Excellent you're wise enough to use disk imaging. Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Even better- update your image more often.

If you had chkdsk issues, now's the time to
    a. run Crystal diskinfo (free) to check your SMART params and get a quick good/bad indication
    b. run chkdsk as above.
