Have you run the windows update troubleshooter? Checked the state of the service?

Have you made sure you're not using a metered connection or done anything else that can disable it?
Check this for ways this can be disabled:
Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10

Tweaking.com's cautious free repair tool (easy to find) also includes a repair for windows update.

What does your update history show? Is there anything after the date you quote? (is that 16/9/16 - last September?)

What is your windows build number - Windows key + R, in the Run box type

    Try these instructions

Open Windows updates click on “Advanced options”
Clear the option to get updates for other Microsoft products when you updates windows
    Restart, then check for updates
The update process should complete successfully now (note, you may have to run it more than once to get all the updates)
As soon as you get the message “Your device is up to date”, go to the “Advanced options” again and re-select the option to get updates for other Microsoft products
Check for updates again, you should now be able to download and install them

That seem to work, I got five updates to download and install..Shows Your device is up to date, I rechecked the option to get updates for other Microsoft products...But none were found, I would thought there would be many more than 5
    Thanks

Welcome, you have to get new updates ASAP. There're should be more than 5 off course.
