Windows 10 Anniversary Uninstalled due to issues, user ID disconnected

My Laptop had Windows 8. It updated to Windows 10 fine. Then there was an issue with a video driver update, but I was able to keep it rolled back. Windows 10 Anniversary Update installed itself and deleted the old driver (no more rollback). It started taking about 20 minutes to get to full boot. Dealt again with frozen screens, mouse, and occasional BSOD and slow reboot. No error numbers that I can think of. I followed Microsoft's instructions to uninstall the buggy anniversary update.

When the laptop rebooted, I think I saw a message about being careful to put in the correct password. I may have had a typo. The system booted with minimal icons and not my preferences or programs. I rebooted. More icons showed up but not all, some apps are broken (Palm), Chrome and no favorites in IE. My User ID appears to have separated from my log in. It shows me logging into a TEMP.xxx.ACER ID. Microsoft still shows my account with the correct ID. The correct ID also seems to have all my data in it.

But I don't know how to connect back to it. Will the TEMP. account eventually be deleted? Should I "sync [my] account? Or will that save the TEMP profile over the good info?

Please help me reconnect to my user ID?

Please move this message to the correct forum if this is not the best place for it.

    Thank you,

The following tutorial deals with temporary accounts but I am not sure that it is exactly your situation since you do not appear to get the messages regarding temporary profiles. However, following the method should help your sort it out.

Philc43,. thank you for sharing! I just print the pages and will read them shortly. Will try this, hoping I have time before Windows anniversary inatalls again, with an other update behind it. Building up my nerve. Sent this message from my phone.

Read recommended process and decided on a plan. Waited until today, when I'd have time to stay in front of the laptop. At 11:17 am I started the laptop to see "working on updates 100% complete. Then waited through automatic restart, "Working on updates", automatic restart. Logged in, Waited through long Welcome login. The screen, and apparently my correct ID profile were there.

The AMD Radeon HD 8250 driver is still 11/27/2015 15,300.1025.1001. This is the driver version that works. The 2016 edition causes freezes, reboots, etc. I am also still on Windows 10 Home 1511 10586.753. I know that previously the system shows the Anniversary Edition wants to install, and update to that anniversary edition also wants to install. But for the moment, I am breathing again. Tax time is here, and I need my laptop!

Philc43, is there any advantage, risk or recommendation to deleting the extra user IDs in C://users/. . . or in the registry per your instructions?

I would see very little advantage in deleting users unless they are taking up space that you need. There will always be more users than just you since W10 also includes a default and a public user. You may also find one with a .migrated extension that is left over from an upgrade. Do you have many users listed?
