For those interested to see what the hardwareID MS uses for digital licences looks like, I made an attempt to decode it with the lastest script in the OP.
None of it makes much sense to me TBH, but seems quite extensive.
Changed my key from the OEM firmware one (a Win 10 key that for some or other reason gives a DL) to the one under
and got a new DLCode:+Registry: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform BackupProductKeyDefault: *****-*****-*****-*****-WB6GC
The package change ( X19 to X20) is probably irrelevant.Code:--------- Clip Event log data --------- Application license successfully installed. Also note the data MS collects for HWid now includes docking station...
Telemetry is all encompassing.. it seems
I think the only Windows 10 PC's that "don't" get a DL are VL PC's. I'm pretty sure I've seen other reports of Windows 10 OEM PC's getting DL's. I don't remember where I saw it reported though. Might have been on Yammer. Memory's not what it used to be or should be these days.
@alphanumeric
Weired hey? I got a DL with a generic MAK on an upgrade from a Win 10 Pro MAK once... Makes nonsense of VL.
I think you and I should be on the MS board.
No matter what ppl say about Steve - at least he was running around punting "Developers, Developers, Developers"
Nadella, however... I'm not so sure about the way forward.
BTW: Terry Meyerson's departure (was he asked to leave?) was just another step to the new MS - lets see how that pans out.
Don't even get me started about Dona. Must be nice to get paid to spend all day on social media. That's the perception I get anyway.
You may have noticed my MVP badge is gone. I decided to not apply to be renewed this year. I'm good until July but I had Brink pull my badge anyway. I just don't like the way the "Insider" MVP program is being run, more like not run to be honest. Not all that happy with some of the things Microsoft is doing, and again not doing.
I brought up a few issues on Microsoft's private Yammer group, MAK keys getting a DL was one of them, and got no official replay from anybody at Microsoft. Just other MVP's saying really?
I really don't think the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.
