@Superfly Have you seen this, Upgrade Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Pro for Workstations
The interesting part is the "You can no longer use the default key to switch between editions until we verify you will be activated on the target edition".

Does anyone know why my Enterprise VL gets deactivated after an update?
    If I run
    slmgr.vbs /dlv

All looks OK, but after an update the info is nothing like I have seen before. If I do a restore from a backup of the activation, and run the slmgr again, everything is fine. Where is this strange stuff coming from and how can I stop it? Also this was not activated with KMS.

If it's not activated via KMS, how is it activated?

In simple terms, VL enterprise keys are illegally sold to general public, and unless pc can contact the appropriate server, it will become deactivated.

You can't phone activate Enterprise. You can only do that with Retail installs using Retail keys. Enterprise uses Volume License keys and has to reactivate at set intervals like cereberus pointed out. Enterprise is not sold to and can't be activated by a consumer. It's only available to Volume License subscribers. The only exception is people like me with a Visual Studio Subscription (MSDN). We get special keys for testing purposes. How did you acquire this PC? It would appear you got conned.

Well, I do not believe that is what happened or my backup should not work. Anyway, I will try to see what the heck is going on. This is only on 1 of my systems. If I did find a deal on PRO on Black Friday would I be able to input the new key and keep all the software on the system running OK. Anyway, I guess time will tell!

Well, I believe that KMS is only a set time. I will check with my original emails and see what is going on. I did not think I was being conned.
