Anyway, I don’t think it can be done at activation time, it has to be done beforehand, on an already activated system… or am I wrong ?

I do not understand the question.

If old pc was activated, and new one is not you can use activation trouble shooter to transfer digital licence to new pc (provided using same MS login account on both devices)

By “beforehand” I was meaning one has to have the previous, activated, system at hand to link its license to a WLID. If, say, the previous computer is dead, it can’t be done. Some people use local (i.e. non-MS) administrative accounts, so if the computer breaks, it’s too late to link.

Absolutely correct. This is one of the reasons why I use an MS account on physical devices.

I use local accounts on virtual machines to avoid cluttering up my MS account.
