    OK...I will try, but should I try my old one with self service mobile? Also, what is the Mobile part for, or does that NOT refer to a cell phone?
    You'll have to ask superfly those questions. My take on that is spoofing a phone gives you options you don't get if it thinks your doing it from a PC.

    Ok, so after doing a complete image in case all goes wrong, I can always go back to how it was. I guess the Self Service Mobile makes it think I am trying to activate via the phone?

    Yup, don't overthink this. I'm not entirely sure why MS has set-up that site (but who's complaining? beats listening to bot-lady right?... many a time I got the 1 digit wrong and had to restart the block all over... LoL) ....but the 'mobile thingy' is most likely named as such as it's related to it's telephony activation system.

    Go ahead and give it a go...good on you for making backups

    OK...wish me luck. I assume that if I have to do a full image restore I am back to where I am now! I will try to enter my current install ID and see what it says. If that fails I guess I can change to the generic key and see what I get as a new install ID. I guess I can just change the product key to the generic one under the updates setting and select change product key under activation without playing with slmgr.

    OK and as soon as my wife gets off the system, it is the one I built for her with this issue after 2 years, I will try.

    OK...I will edit it but I can try it to see what happens can't I? Is there anything that makes you think the link is phony?

    @Superfly
    This is getting very strange!
    So, first are you saying that the mobi link, that I also took down, is no good or that for some reason you do not trust it but it may be OK?

    OK, here is the strange part of what is going on...I used PIDGEN.
    All is OK, as I have said until I do a Windows Update. It does the update and deactivates my Windows. Slmgr shows I am activated but after the update it is NOT and somehow my key is changed to a strange key that is blocked. I had written down my original key and slmgr likes it, but after the windows update it changes to a key that PIDGEN says is blocked. Where in the world did that blocked key come from? Perhaps I can try to change the key to the generic one and see what happens. I am not sure why restoring my original fixes everything until the next update.

    This is getting very strange!
