I found three similar types cmd files online that should bring up the icon. I tried the same one your link goes to first. For some reason it didn't work for me. It's probably because of the problem you pointed out. The only one I found that worked for me was the one I posted. I know I really don't need the icon but I figured, why not.
I compared the fixWin10_full.bat file against what you posted to see if there were additional steps. Darn , they compared identical (after removing an echo and correcting white space). I was really hoping there was something that wasn't included - you know ... that golden nugget

It's a strange thing - it might just be subsequent executions or a matter of time - I'm trying everything that seems reasonable.

You're right - it isn't needed ... you have a full year after RTM to update to Win10.
if I get GWX to show up, I'll see what it does and then remove it by uninstalling KB3035583 in Windows Update.

Thanks for posting what worked on your machine.

    Bill

Thank's for the link on how to attach files.

That would have made it much easier.
I have three computers and decided to do a clean install of win 7 pro, and update that one with Windows 10 and see how it works out.

    I've got a question...

This is regarding my ASUS Tablet with Windows 8.1 Pro x86 (Windows is activated of course).

The Tablet currently has Windows 10 reserved and after looking at this post, i took a curious look at the KB used to reserve it and noticed that KB2952664 was applied.

Now why was KB2952664 applied (via Windows Update) to reserve Windows 10 for this Tablet when that KB is for Windows 7 x86?

I am a very well versed (never a Master) in Computer Hardware and Software but, this kinda takes the cake for me.

I would love to know as a lesson learned as to why.

    Thanks a bunch!

Not sure why you say KB is for Windows 7 x86? - the KB is for both bit depths.

And ... you identified the Asus tablet as ASUS Tablet with Windows 8.1 Pro x86

I used "KB" in short as an acronym in general for the referenced term of "Knowledge Base".

I had mentioned this because KB2952664 is for "Windows 7 x86". I was just confused as to why Windows Update had applied applied the KB2952664 to my ASUS Tablet that has "Windows 8.1 Professional 32-Bit" installed and i was hoping someone may know why Windows Update had applied KB2952664 to the Tablet?

I apologize if my post wasn't clear as to an update that was (confusingly) applied to my system.

    Thanks a bunch!

I have repeatedly tried to run this command file you posted on this forum. It will not trigger anything. My version of Windows 7 is Ultimate. My other computer with Windows 7 is 64 bit Home Premium and it is ready to receive update. This computer is a 32 bit computer. I get no message of any kind about whatever it may be unable to run windows 10. The two KB files are present on the computer. When I try to run the posted command, it seems to run but only about 1 second and then closes.
