    Anniversery Edition won't install

The title says it all. If I look in the Windows logs in the event viewer there is nothing that looks to be to do with it.

I do the restart & install updates. It restarts, and I get progress messages up to 87% at which point it says it can't update and reboots. This seems to take forever when I'm sitting looking at it.

After a failure the Update & Security -> Windows Update settings window says it's preparing to install updates as once more it downloads the update...

I have the Anniversary edition on my laptop, am quite happy with it, really want to get it on my desktop!

It shouldn't be a lack of HDD problem. The system reserved on Disk 0 is 500MB, C: is 232.40GB (according to disk management) and C: has 106GB free space according to it's properties. The actual disk is a Samsung HDD.

Hi, what is the exact error message please? This can be researched.

You can try manually using an iso, flash drive or DVD:
Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums

    Please do this first:
    From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Next- take precautions and use disk imaging (or perhaps the less reliable Windows Backup and Restore) to create a system image. We recommend Macrium Reflect (free).

Things can go horribly wrong and do for some people.

When you've done that, do a clean boot, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals, disable your AV if any (you can disconnect your internet) and start the upgrade when logged in by launching setup.exe

Choose NOT to install updates to simplify the situation. Some of the later updates are problematical for some people.

I can't find an exact error message - if I could I would have Googled it. Where should it be, please? I've looked in Event Viewer.

    OK, back to basics:
    From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

Then if clear from an admin command prompt run
    sfc /scannow

Forgot to mention the chkdsk C: /F was fine. Will do the second command tomorrow.

The scannow found some errors the first time, the second time it was fine. I'll have another go with the disk after refreshing my backups:

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired
them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    C:\Windows\system32>

    That's encouraging.. I suggest you
    - create a disk image (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) ) to consolidate your position and give you a recovery option should things go badly wrong
    - attempt the upgrade using an iso you have already downloaded (so you have that ready for any subsequent attempt and save the download time and any problems with Windows update).
