    KB3194496 - Soft Re-start Issues

Since this was installed yesterday, my W10 Pro system will not successfully perform a soft Restart. The first time this happened was when this update (KB3194496) wanted to restart. The system shuts down, power on starts, the BIOS splash screen is displayed and it never goes anywhere from there. The keyboard is in-operable and their is some disk activity, but not much. The first time I let is set for 10 minutes, nothing happened. Pressing the Hard Restart Button, will restart the system and Windows will boot up. If you select a soft restart form the start button, same problem.

I have a smaller HP laptop with W10 Home on it that KB3194496 was also installed, but it restarts with no problem.

Has anybody else seen this ? Any suggestions ?

Hi, you might try disabling Fast startup.

You might wish to try uninstalling the update, noting MS has been dealing with problems many people are experiencing. (See the long thread on it in the News section).

Instead of creating another thread, I decided to mark this thread UNSOLVED again.

It seems after the last cumulative update KB3200970, I now have the same problem as before. Soft restarts nolonger complete. You have to power off and then on to perform a restart. I assume that the modifications made to the Boot Manager:

3193479 MS16-140: Security update for Boot Manager: November 8, 2016

    is where the problem lies.

Has anybody else seen this problem ? My other Win 10 system does not have this problem maybe due to it being a UEFI base system while my W10 Pro system is legacy boot.

Both systems are Ver 1607, Build 14393.447.
