I see I'm not the only one having this ridiculous problem of not being able to update my OS. I had succeeded in upgrading to Win 10 from Win 8, then had the misfortune of having malware installed on my computer. Of course, my recovery media didn't work so I was forced to reinstall Win 8. Since then, about 2 weeks now, I cannot get Windows to update. I use my computer for work and have actually MISSED DAYS because the OS either will not update or it will finally detect - and on occassion download them - but take HOURS upon HOURS - to end in a continuous loop. I've tried every fix, automated and manual, on every MS site I've come across and nothing. It's beyond frustrating and STILL no fix! How long has 8 been out? Who cares? Obviously not MS.

I've found this tool to work great for upgrading Win 10 computers to the latest OS when Software update was acting funky. It's oddly annoying to find the link, but it seems to bypass the Windows Update system and does an in-place upgrade of your system to the latest version. I used it to upgrade my tablet to W10A and it created a windows.old folder.

wow they really can't get there own operating system to update properly can they, first it said "Your files, apps, and settings can't be kept because your current version of Windows might be installed in an unsupported directory, or you're trying to install an older version of Windows."

and now using the above link you provided it says "Something went wrong: You can contact Microsoft support for help with this error. Here is the error code 0xc1900204."
