    Anniversary update rollout

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...update-history
The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will automatically download and install when it becomes available for your device

Is there some limiting factor applied in respect of the availability in the above quote?

I have not yet received the update by automatic download.
According to information in the above link, it seems that I can elect to "Get the Anniversary Update now". I don't understand why it has not arrived automatically if I could get it myself now.

Will I expose my PC to problems by not waiting for it to become 'available for my device'?

There is some theory that MS releases it to certain devices only when enough of them have already been tested and found to be OK.

That is how I read this thread anyway. Microsoft May Already Have a Reliability Strategy - Windows 10 Forums

One of my PCs updated almost immediately and the other didn't (and didn't for months in the last upgrade either). I updated it manually and it was fine. I'd go for it - you can always roll back within 10 days if you like and if you made a backup before upgrading you could revert to it at any time.

Thanks for your useful response, Ix07.

Unbelievably, about an hour after I started this thread, the update appeared!

I therefore spent some considerable time nurturing the update through to conclusion. There was just one instance when I left my PC unattended - when I returned, I had a completely blank black screen. After a period of time, I decided to gently press the power button once and bingo, it restarted and proceeded to completion.
