8) Executed "Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat"

Downloaded and executed: Windows10Upgrade28084.exe
Results: Windows update failed - Error 0x80004005

I checked the Eventlog immediately after the error and found that the following

Code:

EventID  3 Virtual Disk Service -  Service started 
EventID 16 Microsoft Windows Kernal General - The access history in hive \??\C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback\Boot\BCD was cleared updating 0 keys and creating 0 modified pages.
EventID  4 Virtual Disk Service -  Service stopped

Note:
In between all attempts above, I restored a Windows image that did nót contain any 'update-stuff', i.e. the one I create just before I started trying to update Windows with 1607. There are no downloaded files, things like that.

Wonder whether it might have something to do with me removing all apps?

All in all, probably it would have been a quicker job to do an install from scratch...

I have had my connection set to metered...and 1607 is currently downloading...???!!!! Not impressed.

It had already downloaded, tying up a good chunk of usable bandwidth for the entire household, tried unsuccessfully to install itself 4 times when I wasn't present.

It is not supposed to be downloading over a metered connection.

Yup downloaded then installed on my pc and wifes laptop. Now both without internet. Reverted laptop back to 1511. Im still trying 2 wifi adapters and looking for working drivers.

They seriously need to release a fix for this

They need to change it back so you checkbox the updates you want seperately.

The attempted download stopped, and it is now back to leaving me with a choice to download.

If it were me I would try restoring my disk image and then downloading the 1607 'update' directly and trying the installation 'fresh'.

Or even running the TenForums batch file linked above right after the image restore and then installing it direct.

I wonder if something is messed up from all the changes and various fixes. Although I can't think of why uninstalling apps would affect WU, there may have been other customizations made that could - we just can't see that from here.
The benefit of an in-place upgrade is that all your programs and settings* are maintained.
(*most of your settings)

I have been running the Windows Update - Reset in Windows 10 - batch file. See under 8, 1st item above.
Disabled automatic updated now (services.msc) and will do an install from scratch, once I have time but above all... the spirit/energy to do so. Installing Windows 10 is 1 thing, most of the work is the setup of all applications but above all all the different settings within the applications...
Just have a look at Office (all the settings in in Word, Outlook ...)

There are sooo many complaints about this 1607 update, probably many of us are just skipping it.

You've set Ethernet as metered, I presume? I use a (no registry hack needed) WiFi metered connection. I can confirm that Windows Update does indeed try (and fail) to download over a standard metered connection before offering the 'Download now' option. It's even recorded as a failed download in Update History.
