Yes. It's a driver from 2009, it came on the CD with my WiFi card, which my WiFi card was bought way after 2009, to be honest.
Maybe this is the driver i need! ive tried various ralink/mediatek/tplink drivers. Do you have you the precise driver version number? Thanks

Driver version is 3.0.11.0 from 11/9/2009. However, it depends on what chipset you have too... my WiFi card is a Ralink RT3062 802.11n Wireless Network PCI card.

The driver issue with my WiFi card isn't the result of the AU, as the issue happened in the previous major release too, but rather the people who make the drivers for it now... the newer driver is from MediaTek, while the disc that came with it has it as Ralink... as MediaTek bought them in 2011.
    Here's my driver info:

Works great on Win10.1607 - not so great on Win8.1

The install disc had the Ralink drive on it - that was REALLY bad as far as connection speed.
When I used to play around with drivers, I tried the Mediatek site - it was better than the Ralink driver

I decided to let Windows Update handle all my drivers - the one currently installed, by WU is the best.
I don't remember if the version/dates were different - it might be that the inf is tuned to Windows by MS.

If you can connect via Ethernet:

Try uninstalling the driver (remove software if prompted or there's a checkbox on the confirm)
shut down your machine, wait about a minute
    Start your machine
    Check Device manager

right click compter name at the top
    select scan for hardware changes

If necessary, run Windows Update to get the driver

I'm not sure how to get the driver without Ethernet - maybe a USB network adapter?

This is the driver MS updates have used for a WL-700N-M it worked on win 8 and on all builds to 1511. Doesnt work on 1607.

The driver does work on my Win10 machine with my device (Asus USB-N53)
    Machines and devices differ.

Don't want someone who is looking for a fix to discount trying the driver

That driver is now designed for asus usb n53 and not for the wl-700n-m. Looks like mediatek/ralink/ms have messed this driver up, or since 1511 is now old unsupported hardware. Looking at other all other usb wifi its unclear which would actually work so i think for win10 im avoiding anything mediatek. I'll say again none of this nonsense would happen with win7/8

The driver is designed for the Ralink chip in the device.
The previous driver from the Mediatek site did work on my Win8 machine.
Mediatek is aware of the issues I had between the three versions I tested, no doubt there will no doubt be yet-another-version.

Have you reported the issues you see to Mediatek?

Seems quite a few people had troubles with their WiFi adapters/chips after various updates. I gave up trying to fix my roommate's WiFi on his laptop, 'cause machine itself was pretty old and pretty much any drivers I COULD find for it wouldn't work. Even plugged into ethernet and tried to update them through WU. Nope. Weird thing was, it acted like the WiFi was OFF. And the F-key to switch it was stuck on orange and non-responsive. Very strange. It wasn't until I installed an old Wireless-G Netgear USB adapter that it finally magically worked.

So I'm back from holiday and back to trying to fix this wifi issue

I've install a dynamode gui for my WL-700N-M.
The status is connected, SSID, PA, IP, gateway, speed, Rx & Tx throughput, packets sent/received details are all there

That means the wifi usb is wifi'ing a connection to the router, right?

So if it looks like the usb stick is "working" what is blocking internet?

Again do I need to make a change to something in :-
    windows firewall?
    Router settings?
