Not sure. Very odd. Most likely due to whatever bug is causing the checkbox to grey out in the first place. Don't think MS really has this all figured out yet with Win 10.

Just a thought but are both machines running Anniversary update build? Same build?
I also have a Pro machine and like you I have the checkbox but no verbiage stating "check for updates from Microsoft Update". That must be either due to being Pro vs. Enterprise and/or may be due to it not being joined to a domain unlike my Enterprise box which has SCCM/GPO controlling various aspects of the update process.
Hi everyone,
I see the last post here is from November 2016 - I was wondering if since then a solution has been found?
I upgraded from win 8 home edition to win 10 on the anniversary and have been suffering from win updates greyed out problem ever since.
The troubleshooting (run as admin) did not solve it for me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I asked in another thread and TairikuOkami gave me a possible solution:
Windows Updates - Advanced Settings - Grayed Out - Windows 10 Forums
I haven't tried yet, if I do and it works I will post here.
I would expect that to be a different issue as that post claims that Advanced Settings (in its entirety) is greyed out, not just the checkbox for getting other Microsoft updates for which this post is based. By all means if you follow through let me know if it works.
You are correct, in my case the Advanced Settings in its entirety is greyed out since I did the anniversary upgrade. Sorry I didn't notice this thread was for a more specific issue.
Ah. No worries. Good luck!
