I have completely disabled Windows Update

With the Windows Anniversary update next week and the forcing of Cortana and unwanted adware, I have disabled Windows update and will keep it off until Microsoft removes Cortana and the unwanted adware.

    Thank you.

So I guess, we will not be seeing you ever again.

Seriously, if you are concerned about it, you should keep 7 or 8.1, they will work for years just fine.
The other option is to try some linux distro like Mint or Kubuntu, at least for a causal computing.

I agree with Tairiku, Cortana can be genuinely useful. The new update will add much needed consolidation. If your worried about the ads why not save up for the Pro edition.

Except that the pro edition is being setup so that the policies that govern several unwanted systems are being locked in the pro edition, which i have.

Microsoft To Disable Policies In Windows 10 Pro With Anniversary Update - Slashdot

The main issue I have is the only reason why microsoft released Windows 10 for free is to garner ad revenue through cortana, bing, and the windows store.

I understand that many of you don't see a problem with this. Many of you don't have a problem with microsoft storing your data in their cloud servers to generate ads to send to your system. Many of you don't have a problem with microsoft forcing updates on you with no user control as to what is installed. And many of you have no issue with a company telling you what you can do with your computer.

    I do.

I will use windows 10 as windows 10 had deleted my backup copy of windows 7 and i have no way to reinstall it without losing all my information now. But I will keep control of my computer. I understand that many of the members here will laugh at me and call me childish names and poke fun, that's fine. I have thick skin anyway.

You could have shared that way you did it so we can see some point of your statement. That could be something useful.

I started learning computers in 1985 and the company was transitioning from MS-DOS to Windows 3.0 or is it 3.1?
I was just a factory worker and learned OTJ: no training. So I've seen umpteen changes over the years.
So I've gone from a dumb as can be to at least an intermediate user.
In my experience I use default settings and recommended procedures 99% of the time.

I've learned that the computer world is always on the move even when I might not like what the changes entail but it is what it is.

I do apologize for my lack of information in my first post. I had just come home from work and i was extremely tired so i was basically venting to anyone that would listen before i passed out in bed. That however is not really a valid excuse, so again, I apologize.
