I know.. some things are better left either un-asked or un-known.

Once KB3035583 is installed it will notify the user of different phases of Windows 10 availability. E.g when Microsoft’s upcoming operating system nears its release, the update will add a Tile to the Homescreen and a notification icon in the system tray urging the user to update to Windows 10.

In order to make sure Windows doesn’t install KB3035583 again with the next round of updates, uncheck “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates”. This will make sure the update will be listed under the “Optional” updates and no longer automatically install.

I don't like being nagged. You can always install it again if you think it is necessary.

I uninstalled KB3035583 on both my W7 and 8.1 installations and hid the update, as I haven't decided yet whether I plan to upgrade to W10, or keep my licenses for 7 & 8 and buy a separate one for 10.

I'm hoping that with this update getting Win10 will be that much easier to accomplish. :)

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 running Win 8.1 happily and receiving updates. I have checked that KB3035583 is installed. However, that PC has not received the invitation to reserve Win 10.
My home-brew PC, which is also on Win 8.1, received the invitation last week.
I presume the invitations went out in a single broadcast so why has the first machine missed out?

Windows update has to be set to automatic - check that setting. Change it to automatic if necessary and see if the notification is pushed to your machine.

The Win10 app is also a upgrade assistant of sorts - it won't notify you if the machine doesn't meet requirements.

Those are the only two reasons I know for certain.

Well, 8.1 updates are received automatically so perhaps the second suggestion is the one that counts. It seems strange though that there is no way to know if the assessment has been made. Win 8.1 functionality seems fine so I would have thought Win 10 would also function on that PC.
