If you have tried everything else so far, and nothing works, think your only choice left is a Clean Install tybee

Ok, that's what I've been thinking, too. I would also like to install a new and bigger hdd first. Will that cause any problems? Does 10 forums have a tutorial to do all that?

Yes we do on how to do a clean install. As far as installing a new HD I would suggest to get a Good SSD Like Samsung, which is one of the highest rated models. Will greatly increase your startup speed, and all your programs will run a lot faster.

If you did a clean install on your existing hard drive now. Then when you get your New SSD all you would have to do is make a complete image back using Macrium Reflect, then copy it on to your New SSD, take out or disconnect old HD and plug in your SSD then just reboot.
Don't use the clone feature in Macrium Reflect, use the Complete Image backup method, as it does a MUCH better job. :)

Well, the clean install got rid of the problem, of course. Now all I have to do is rebuild. Thanks for all your help.

Glad you got it done tybee!!! Clean Installation is MUCH better for you anyways. Now is a good time to make a Complete Image Backup using Macrium, and keep it stored in a safe place. :)

My clean install went well, except... I have found that some/most of my games will not start; Fallout4 won't, Dragonage Inquisition will. Those that won't present the message: Performing first time setup... Installing DirectX for Windows... where it fails. At the first attempt to start the game it has installed some things but couldn't install DirectX. The final message reads: C:\Windows\System32\xactengine3_5.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it comtains an error. Error status 0x000012f. I looked for solutions and found many references to Visual C++ issues but did not find any helpful solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi.
Please start a thread in the Gaming section, or Software and Apps section (if it's more than just games). That would be best to get it full exposure and proper assistance. :)
