    Windows update code error 0x80240fff

    Hello,

Since 26 may 2016 many people have this code error 0x80240fff when they recheach updates.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...4586#LastReply

It happens to new computers with fresh Windows 10 version Build 10240.

Some have a Fix with "defer upgrade" option, but she's not in Home version.

Hi Tiribos and welcome to Tenforums.
If I understand you correctly, you have 10240 on your "W10 Home" system, and the error happens when trying to update to the November 1511 release, correct?

In this case, the page previous to the one you link, has the answer:

Use the ISO's to do an In-place upgrade.

Media creation Tool is now updated with Version 1511, OS Build 10586 of Windows 10.

Download link for Media Creation Tool:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10

Detailed steps on how to Download an ISO using Media creation Tool:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9...-download.html
Then do an InPlace upgrade using Method 1 from here:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
The size of the update through Windows update and ISO are nearly the same.

    Check "defer updates"
Go to Settings >> Update & security >> Windows Update >> Advanced options >> Check "Defer upgrades". http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...1-650c779dbbd0

    Hello,

Yes I have 10240 on my W10 Home and Windows update dont works

    For now I'll wait.
I do not think that Microsoft leaves millions (probably) of people with their brand new laptop need to do this manipulation of ISO too technical.

My Windows Home dont have "Defer upgrades"

RE : My Windows Home dont have "Defer upgrades"
Yes, only the Pro and Enterprise versions have the " defer" option. Home does not.

RE : this manipulation of ISO too technical.

See if the following is more user-friendly.....................

Use the Tech Bench link to download your version of Windows 10
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...brrWLRbagYCa0w

Scroll down to Select Edition > click the pointer at the right and select your edition of Windows 10 > click Confirm.
    ( ***
note : unless your Win 10 is of N, or KN or Single Language version, you should select Windows 10 which is first one on the list. It contains both the Home and the Pro edition.)

Click the pointer and select Language > make sure you pick the same language the computer is now running > click Confirm
Select the bit version, 32 or 64-bit. Make sure you select the same bit version as the computer is now running.
At the bottom, click the pointer next to Save > click Save As > navigate to a folder of your choice > click the chosen folder > click Save
The iso will start downloading to your chosen folder.
When it is done, go to that folder > open the folder > right click at the iso file > click Mount > click Setup.exe
    Installation will begin.
It will allow you to keep you files, settings and apps.
    No product key is required.
    Activation will be automatic.

    Thx to MS

Tiribos what happened after Microsoft downloaded? I have had just the same thing happen several times and it failed each time after spending some considerable time giving a very convincing show.

For the moment I turned off the laptop when the download was at 60%.

You will find that your laptop must be left on for an hour or more. You will eventually receive a restart message and if you are lucky more wizardry. A big file called windows.old with your old operating system and personal data will appear if you look in your OS (C).

If you keep getting restart messages, then it has not worked and you will have to wait for Microsoft to sort out the problem. Your PC should send reports to MS.
