why is windows 10 giving me windows 8 updates?

    why is windows 10 giving me windows 8 updates?


    i upgraded to 10 from windows 7, but i recently got some windows 8/8.1 updates for the malicious software removal tool. anyone have some idea as to why? thank you in advance...

    not sure what you mean. can you elaborate? same as what? i didn't think the malicious software removal tool was included in windows 10 by default and i haven't downloaded it. to be honest, i haven't poked around extensively in windows 10 yet. perhaps it is in there somewhere. Defender is installed and i have been getting the updates for that. thanks!

    It is included in W10 monthly updates and yes, its called and appears as Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - May

    I looked for it last night. not found in control panel nor searching 'malicious'. i'll try again tonight searching 'mrt' as suggested in the link you provided. thanks!

    Its under 'installed updates'.

    The tool runs as soon as it has been installed... you have no control over that. When its finished I believe it automatically deletes itself ready for the next one in a months time.
