    i still cant for the life of me install this Build 10041 even with there fresh iso from there website! its like microsoft doset want mt to try!

    can someone tell me where the windows 10 setup keeps its fail logs because "something has happened" dosent explain Shit microsoft!

    is this it?

    setupact.log & setuperr.log in

    $windows.~bt\Sources\Panther
    Try this:

    Create a local account when you install.

    The easiest way is to just disconnect from the Internet while before you start the install.

    You could also try to read the small print in the account setup step, but it's too convoluted to explain.
    Basically you say create a new account, then create a new account or something along those lines - I just disconnect and avoid the pain.

    Sorry I don't have the exact steps, but I think you can figure it out

    When you're up and running, you can, if you decide to, switch to a MS account.

    I can't update to preview 10041: Error 0x80246017

    Windows TP 9926 is updated
    I have reverted registry keys back to their original values

    What else can I do?
    Any idea?

    I ended up with a fresh install. I created a new partition in a media disk, but I'm still disappointed because I couldn't update from build 9926...

    At the end of the day my opinion is that build 9926 is far better for daily use ! VIA HD Audio doesn't work properly in build 10041, no sound at all.

    I still hope that I'll get rid of the evil error 0x80246017 and update 9926 to the next "stable" build.

    Well Alpha Addict that's what we get when we play with developers
    I agree 9926 was more stable, but.... I'm happy to see things breaking - that means MS is really changing things in a large way.

    It's time to update your specs with yet-another-OS version, Vlad.
    I'm wondering if 10036 might have caused part of the issue - not sure how you're managing the different versions, but I'd guess 9926 and 10036 were separate installs.

    ASUS Z87-Plus support
    (check that I linked the correct page - there are often variants that people don't include. I look based on the system specs)
    Motherboards - Z87-PLUS - ASUS

    I don't see VIA HD audio, only Realtek on the support/download page. Makes me think I have the wron mobo.

    I had some issues with Cortana that were 'resolved' by disabling one of the mics - maybe there's a device conflict. Does Sound Trouble shooter give you anything?
    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound

    There were issues with some devices when a registry key (lowfilter / highfilter???) were defined - this is fairly old though, but things do come back to haunt you.

    I also checked the VIA support page, but could not match your device to their downloads. I looked for 8.1 x64 drivers (codecs)

    That's all I have ... except I can't update 9926 either because it says it can't update a VHD install.
    It can install to a VHD, but can't update it ??????? I think this is a throwback to Win7 days, I can't install Win7 on a VHD, pretty much the same error (Can't install on a VHD) - don't know why though.

    The only thing I can think of is the Windows self host settings in the registry

    Here's a registry merge that will do it for you: Attachment 15506
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability]
    "BranchName"="fbl_impressive"
    "ThresholdRiskLevel"="low"
    "ThresholdOptedin"=dword:00000000
    "ThresholdInternal"=-

    Merge the file then try Windows update again.

    Failing an update, try installing fresh from the ISO. You can download Win10.041 here:
    cant import this reg file i get a error

    cannot import the specified file is not a registry script

    but after looking closely my reg already looks like that

    damn looks like im forced to do a dirty update....
    fresh install windows over my windows now and drag back the windows old files...

    Sorry about that - my text editor doesn't save UTF-8 correctly so I have to save it as Unicode for merge to work. I checked the file and it seems like it already is Unicode - maybe it's not terminated correctly - not sure.

    You might try deleting the ThresholdOptedin key using regedit - that specifies slow or fast ring.

    So it would look like this:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability]
    "BranchName"="fbl_impressive"
    "ThresholdRiskLevel"="low"

    After that, I'm out of ideas

    It happened to me to as well but trying to upgrade from windows 7 but I also had a different error code. This in a non-gpt partitioned disk.

    I am thinking it may have something to do with the graphics driver. Did anybody have the same issue in a virtual machine?

    For those with the errors was your uefi and secure boot enabled or both turned off or was just secure boot turned off?

    I am wondering if the new build require Uefi and secure boot enabled. I hope I am wrong. That has been reported by an news article.

    If UEFI and Secure boot needs to be enabled even with non-gpt disk. I think it would be to much of a headache for me at least.

    Does windows 10 not installing happen with the 32 bit or just the 64 bit system?

    Thank you for this information.

    Good news xdarkmario,

    Could you elaborate on what you mean by a dirty update?

    Well I call it a dirty update by when you
    Semi fresh install Windows from a boot usb and install over your current windows without formatting then after windows installed you just throw the information from the windows.old like user profile and files and just dump it back on its spot. It's not a recommended method but in this case is was nessary.
