    update failed to install

    Hi all,

Everyday since last Wednesday, Win10 has been trying to install this:

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3140768).

Everyday is asks me many times a day to restart my computer to install.......and everyday it tells me many times a day installation has failed. How do I get this annoying update to install - I dislike Win10 at best with nanny protocols.

    Any ideas

    Hi Fred22,

I am really sick and tired of this win10's update loop. I have just disabled the windows update process in the services.

Hopefully that will stop the constant harassment to restart the computer to install and then fail. I hate this OS. It's utter garbage. MS fails to see that we can think for ourselves and then they F*** up. Fortunately, or not, I have this issue on my email/web computer...I will NEVER install win10 on my professional Photoshop/Art workstation, it's to much of a gamble for my business.

    To : teresawang,
Something I would like to point out.............

    1. In Windows 10, there is no Windows Update in Control Panel.
To uninstall an update, it has to go through Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed updates............

    2. The "GO Back to 7/8/8.1" option is applicable only if:
    a) Windows 10 was installed less than 30 days ago.
    b) Windows.old has not been deleted from the computer.
So, if you post that option, please include the "conditions" so that users will know if the option is applicable to them or not.

How can I uninstall something that failed to install? This was an update to IE flash player, or something like that. I supposedly have IE disabled. I never use it...use Firefox. Can't I just leave it like it is?

You don't use IE. So, just ignore it.

A solution that worked for me after support from MS.

Unable to install KB3140768 on Windows 10 1511 ENT x64 as the updates failed with the error 0x80070020
We deleted the registry entries for the missing profile from the location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

NOTE: Take a backup of the key before deleting it.

You need to compare with the accounts under Computer management, and delete the registry entries for the accounts which does not exist.

The above change will require a reboot.

go to the updates and hide that kb that it wants to install if you wanted to stop
