One more thing springs to mind and that was tweaking.com, which you used with some benefit with your original problem. I discovered it about the same time as you did, and it checked 2 systems of mine with no adverse effects, though I did notice a little speed increase in 1 system.

Step 2 - optional - pre scan - checks the Windows Packages Files for omissions or corruption - which SFC uses, and Reparse Points for corruption etc -the symlinks or junctions that Windows NTFS mostly uses for backwards compatibility for older installed programs, and finally that the environment variables are present and correct.

This Reparse points scan and fixer may solve your problem with the mount point.

Otherwise, see here for a comprehensive article on :

Article: Reparse Points and Symbolic Links A Windows 7 All-Points Bulletin | ITNinja

example, using Mark Russinovich's Sysinternals Junction.exe:

    Junction

To delete a junction is extremely easy. Here's how I can delete my VHD junction.C:\Users\jeff>junction -d c:\work\vhd

Junction v1.06-Windows junction creator and reparse point viewer
    Copyright(C)2000-2010MarkRussinovich
    Sysinternals- www.sysinternals.com

    Deleted c:\work\vhd.
    or using mountvol:

The volume can be dismounted but you must be in an elevated session.C:\Windows\system32>mountvol c:\work\vhd /D
Finally, LinksShellExtension adds overlays to Windows Explorer to show at a glance the type of Symlink or junctions present in an Explorer tree view:

    Link Shell Extension

LinksShellExtension worked in Windows 7, no success with it in Windows 10

In case you missed it Fafhrd, tweakings.com software is the cause of the problem that has been going on for a few pages.
I tested it too on a clean install where no problems were present, after running the software I had to clean reinstall all over again due to some time limits with the fact that some basic solutions didn't help.

This program deletes quite some stuff (some where I'm asking myself of if it should be deleted) and resets (can't confirm if it really resets) a lot of settings.
I have uploaded a zip some pages ago, provided by the OP to me for review before uploading because of privacy concerns (not necessary, but also not a problem if there are privacy concerns), that contains the logs of this program. You can check it to see what happens and why the Windows Resource Protection source is being corrupted.

No axe0, I didn't miss it. I know it is reported to break things by yourself.
Also I did not recommend running the repair Windows feature of tweakings.com, which you claim is the source of the above problem.

Please don't jump down my throat without reading what I have actually said.

I suggested using step 2 (Optional) to check, amongst other things, the Reparse points, and if required to fix the broken or corrupted links., and then gave links to various alternatives to work with Reparse points, if problematic.

I had downloaded the 3..12.2016_11.16.53-PM.zip, and glanced through the logs, but I'd like to know what you think the program did to RobH2's system to cause subsequent problems.

All I can see is that it ran DISM, and reported corruption of the component store.

Was it deleting all the files in the C:\Users\NVISIO~1\AppData\Local\Temp\ folder which caused the DISM error: 1392problem? Seems unlikely.

It seems that the problem you had with tweaking.com, axe0, has been sublimated onto RobH2's apparent success with it:

I want to know that too, I have tested it today on my Windows 10 installation in VMware and the result is a corrupted system which I yesterday clean reinstalled. All attempts to fix even the basic corruption problems don't work.

I had a clean installation, installed tweakings.com software and let it run, afterwards all sorts of things changed and I found my installation was corrupted. I'm currently installing Windows 10 again with the option to keep everything to see how that goes.

I did find one interesting repair with reference to my earlier post referring to the point about the Optical drives, though:

    18 - Repair CD/DVD Missing/Not Working
    Start (3/12/2016 11:37:32 PM)
iTunes or GEARAspiWDM.sys not found, not applying UpperFilters iTunes Reg Key
    Done (3/12/2016 11:37:32 PM)

Apparently iTunes upperfilters Reg Key has something to do with this.

I do need one thing. I need to delete this 'mount' folder from my desktop. Right click does not offer me 'eject' like when I mount an ISO to a drive letter. When I try to delete it I'm told it needs permission and I'm logged in as an Administrator. I don't know how to delete it.
Try adding this command to your menu Rob. Here is the link.

Also Rob, since we've tried almost everything to repair your Windows 10 without success, take a look at this program made by one of our members here. This has helped lots of others in the past. Just another idea Rob.
SFC SCANNOW and DISM RESTOREHEALTH - Repair Corrupt Files

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

That ISO you downloaded from Tech Bench, if you have a flash drive available, use your 7-zip to copy all the files from that iso to a flash drive. Don't need to "burn" it, as long as your flash drive is Fat32 formatted. Just use 7-zip and copy all files inside that ISO to Flash drive. That program above, will find this and use the install.wim file on that flash drive.

    @OldMike65

I have and use the 'TakeOwnership' reg hack. It's very handy and gets me past permission issues now and then. I'll try the 'Bootable Rescue Disk' you recommend.

I also see the debate between 'Fafhard' and 'axe0'. I'm unable to determine if they are telling me to do something or just debating. 'Tweaking.com' was infact the only thing that repaired my machine and allow me to boot though. I think they acknowledged that. It might have created other issues but we all worked for days trying to get my boot issue (the original focus of this thread) resolved. The ONLY thing that worked was Tweaking.com's repair tool. Good or bad, it got me out of a horrible jam when everything we tried here failed.

I believe I had DISM completion issues before I even ran Tweaking.com so I don't believe it's exacerbated anything there. Not sure, but I believe a tech had me run 'sfc' before I ever posted the first thread here and that 'sfc' had failed to complete, DISM had failed and I just let it go back then and went back to work. When the boot issue popped up, then I posted here and we learned once again that I can't complete DISM, which leads us to today.

I'll try things and report back.

Thanks again for all the help, all of you.

One other thing. I'd still like to remove the 'Mount' folder from my desktop, see my post #370. I can't remove it. It's mounted I think and I can't unmount it because I don't know how.

If it' truly mounted, Rob, it should be showing in file explorer as a separate drive. In that case, it should just be a matter of right clicking on the drive and selecting "Eject".

I could be wrong Word Man but I believe its just a folder Rob made, for trying to run Dism command earlier.
