    Service registration is missing or corrupt

    Before I updated to Windows 10, I must have damaged some files whilst trying to turn off Windows 10 notifications in Windows 7. I couldn't do any updates in Windows 7 either.

    There is no error code. Windows update troubleshooter says: "Service registration is missing or corrupt."

    I ran sfc/ scannow, it said it found corrupt files but was unable to fix it. The CBS log is attached. Attachment 59004

    Hi mAReDux and welcome to Tenforums.

    Please open an administrative command prompt and type the following
    Code:
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
    This will place a much smaller text file on your desktop of only the important data to be evaluated from your CBS log.
    Thanks.

    EDIT: You can also try manually resetting the windows update components (skipping step #4):

    I don't know if the auto-Fix It will run in W10; I've never tried it. Probably the W8 version will.

    You can also try fixing things, by copy & pasting the following in an Admin Command Prompt:

    fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\&fsutil usn deletejournal /d /n c:&Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc /scannow&Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase&pause

    And let it run through.
    Then reboot and run it again, to check if it cleaned and fixed everything.
    It may take awhile depending on your hardware(HDD or SSD),
    and it may appear to freeze at 20% on the third part,
    just be patient and let in run out.

    If this doesn't help after a couple run-throughs and reboots, you could try a repair install.
