Windows 10 update leads to multiple issues

Unwittingly downloaded it this morning. Anyone else having these or similar issues? Any solutions?

    • Apps slow to load
    • Some app icons on bottom navigation bar invisible but still present
    • "Settings" and other system apps won't open via search bar
    • User wants to bang head on desk until senseless
    • Second monitor not detected
    • Default PDF program now Edge instead of Adobe (easy fix)
    • Start menu won't open

Ran the command prompt via WIN + X. Log of that below:

    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586]
    (c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.10586.0

    Image Version: 10.0.10586.0

    [==========================100.0%==========================]

    Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>
    C:\WINDOWS\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Found "DELL Command Update" and downloaded 3 updates. Computer crashed during updates into a beautiful kaleidoscope display of flashing colors. Did a hard shut down of computer.

Second monitor now awake, but START menu still not working, Microsoft Edge icon still invisible, cannot access anything system-related via SEARCH.

No idea what to do about corrupt files or source files.

    Welcome to TenForums, dbrtwo!

A few things things first, since we don't know what you've tried so far:

    1) Can you uninstall the update to see if that stabilizes things? (Start / Settings / Update & security / Windows Update / Advanced options / View your update history / Uninstall updates)

    2) Do you have a system restore point or, better yet, an external image backup, you can revert to?

    3) Can you roll back any of the 3 drivers you downloaded?

    4) Have you considered an in-place upgrade as a repair option? There's a tutorial here: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    5) There are options to do a more effective job of running DISM but we can get to that if need be if other options don't stabilize your system.

I too installed 10586 and had problems straight away. To cut a long sentence short - I decided to do a 'clean it all out' install instead of upgrade. I thoguht better to lose everything than not have it work. I needn't have worried. 10586 did a virgin install but saved every file and image and software in their original places, I was well pleased about that. I did have to reinstall MS Office but that is a VERY long story. I have 3 users on my pc; I went into windows.old and moved shortcuts, files, photos etc across to their new desktop, all fine.

end result is 10526 is running very smoothly indeed.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! We ended up using Geek Squad, as this is a work computer and so needed to be fixed sooner rather than later. Geek Squad tried to fix it and in the end simply created a new profile on the computer and copied everything from the broken profile to the new profile. Had this not worked we would have reinstalled Windows, but fortunately it worked.

So for anyone with a similar problem: if nothing has worked, try making a new user and copying your files to there before you wipe your computer and reinstall Windows.

The downside of this build is that Microsoft Freelancer, which I got when the Ark docked, now will not work. I was running it on a Discovery 487 mod based on freelancer virgin install, now no go .....................

I have many issues, but nothing is broken as far as I know.

I assume that I should uninstall both Win updates - KB3176937 and KB3176935.
    Should I?

    (Posted at MS earlier.)
Damn MS - I swear, I am furious.

After updates, some of my privacy settings were reversed: contacts are ON Privacy Settings
Let apps run in the background - ALL except Edge, which I had already removed, were on.

    Classic Start replaced by Win.

New Programs installed - or reinstalled - (connoted by the word, "New" listed under the program list) after this morning's updates:
    Alarms and Clock
    Calendar
    Connect
    Camera
    Feedback Hub
    Get Started
Groove Music - I might not have removed it, but it shows as new.
    Mail
    Maps
    Messaging
    MS Edge
    Movies and TV
    OneDrive
    Skype Preview
    Store
    Voice recorder
    Weather
    Windows accessories
    Photos
    Solitaire Collection
    XBOX

My clock is no longer in the right hand bottom corner - new notifications (off) are
My Search settings now display these REMOVED, disabled, or hidden apps:
    Cortana
    Flipboard
    Win10 BETA
    PicArts photo studio
(& Backup and Restore - which I use - are visible apps).

My screen display setting was changed.
Win Store, Edge, Ask Me Anything, Files were placed on taskbar.

Open With settings have been changed.

Add or remove quick actions - all were ON except for wifi. None were on (except one that isn't a choice - volume).

I don't have the patience or desire to deal with this, and like I first said, when you mess with my PRIVACY settings by turning them back on, I get really upset.

This is the only visual but is problematic in the sense that I don't want this crap that was downloaded.

As far as breaking features - I don't yet know.

    Remove Win updates? Both?

System Restore to yesterday? Seems like overkill.

    Suggestions?

In Outlook, I disconnected Social Connector. How do I disable updates for this unwanted addon?

    What is info path?
    What is share point workspace?

    Thank you.

I amend - in addition to visually, Search has been wildly screwed up,
My 26,000+ Outlook files are indexing, so it's going to difficult to find anything.

I think that you confused the UPGRADE (to Win10) with the monthly updates; otherwise few people would be satisfied with a reinstallation.

oh boy did the win 10 upgrade give me some headaches. One of my daughters wanted her win 7 laptop sorting out and I upgraded it to win 10 as well. The touchpad wouldn't work and neither would the keyboard, tried all sort, drivers were missing so downloaded etc etc, but no go. So I reverted it to win 7, clean install, and its perfect now.

First of all, sorry you had these problems.
Now installing the Windows Anniversary Update, for all of us, removes any personal tweaks that the user installed or changed in there Windows 10. This is normal, as when MS releases a major update like AU was and is, puts everything back to its defaults.
Then of course after the AU was installed people had more problems. So since the Anniversary Update, MS has sent out 2 or 3 more smaller updates to repair some of the bugs that were in the AU.

All those programs installed my MS is also normal. Sorry. BUT you CAN remove them. :) One by one. There are a couple different ways to remove them.
1st way: Right click on any program you want to uninstall and it will display choices for you. One choice is uninstall. This only removes it for the current user.
2nd Way: Read the tutorial that I will give you a link for, and it will show you a way to completely remove them. (Not all can be removed, as MS will not allow it on some) Most of the files you listed thou, can be removed. Link below.
Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Now as for removing those last 2 updates, I WOULD NOT remove them. You could end up with more problems down the road.
This is going to happen from time to time, as MS releases more updates. The next major update due out next year, will also most likely remove any personal tweaks or changes to the Windows OS, and bring it back to defaults. I don't like it either, as I have lots of tweaks on my Windows 10 Pro. And I had to add them all back in after the Anniversary Update Which is a big pain. Because I had to put them all back in on 2 computers.

You also could run sfc /scannow from your command prompt admin, just to check your Windows 10. This will try and fix / repair any errors it finds. Will also report to you if it does not find any errors. If it finds errors after running, reboot, and run again.

Hope some of this information helps you.
    Mike.

Mike - It is an overwhelming mess. I scanned, not read.
Right now, I am still too annoyed to accept more TWEAKING. I rather complain.
Thank you for your quick response. I am sure you gave me some great information.

First - with Classic Search- do I uninstall and reinstall it? (I had removed all win apps with Power Shell, so "permanent" is meaningless when the MS team want you to have something that YOU don't want.) So, I want them GONE.

Secondly - I upgraded to Win 10 in January (2016). Wasn't the AU for an earlier beta test? I was not an early user, so are we talking about the same thing? I had build 10586. I now have #1607.

I know what an anniversary is, but people were talking about the AU before most of us had it?

Cumulative Updates in May (5/14) broke my computer for 20+ days (BSODs 2 x a day) and I had a minor glitch in April.
We got the BSODS to stop, but I never really repaired my computer until I then spent 35 days restoring my computer.
Long story short. I tried for a clean installed over June and July. Ended up with another "upgrade."

I do not think that this is "perfectly normal" but I am reacting more emotionally than logically. Today, for the FIRST time since last year, I think my HP printer is finally interacting with my laptop as it should and printing in the correct color.
HP is another program I installed two dozen (not an exaggeration) times. It was W10 the entire time - and I kept having corrupted installs.

Altogether, I have been fighting with Win10 creeping into Win 7 and overtaking my system (by choice) since November 2015. This is too much crap for one year.

I am sure I will have more questions.

    Thank you.
