That is about the shortest, sweetest, concise response so far! With my ramblings, that was what I was trying to get across. tkx.

I guess you can't go wrong with that haha! But you have to expect that people will just ask if someone can answer. I can scan through some pages, but in todays age I don't think people will get past the second page of blindly scrolling to find it before they simply ask.

I could be wrong, but I think that users who have removed the 10240 build via Disk Cleanup, like me, since day 1, will see that update failing to install, and users who have not wiped out b. 10240 will see that update installed.
Makes sense to me as there is no Windows.old file to update.
In all cases, after installing b. 10586, I have revisited my Settings, made sure that everything was retained and hid that update for ever. I won't bother installing it via DISM as I'm not even sure that the successful installation really changes something, the update could show as installed but not really installed as there is no .old config file to update on both my W 10 systems.
    Just my opinion,
Windows update does not update the Windows.old folder. It only patches the currently installed operating system.

    Hi,

Maybe, but when I ran disk cleanup I deleted all previous installation etc.. files, so maybe that weird update does not find the appropriate file or registry key(s) to update/modify. I tried on one system where b.10240 was not removed and it installed ok, on 2 other systems with b.10240 removed it failed. After this, restored a full system image backup and hid the update in question.
As long as my settings were preserved, I do not mind if this update is installed or not.

I've mentioned it before but my settings weren't preserved on at least two occasions I can recall.
I set that straight manually and never have been offered this update. Simply because I think WU spotted this.

    Cheers,

    B/R,
What is b.10240? I have no Windows.old on any of my systems, they were all clean installs. No KB3122947 is even offered, failed or otherwise.

b.10240 refers to Windows 10 Build 10240, the released version. The latest build is Windows 10 1511 10586.0 with a few updates changing that last number. As for KB3122947 you probably wouldn't have been offered it until the intervening updates have been done.

I just don't get his reference to it? I guess he means the backup of that build in the Windows.old folder? I am well aware of what build 10240 is and 10586.xx. I just got 3 updates today, still no KB3122947 offered or listed in my update history. It's obviously not applicable to my system. I'm now at 10586.29.

    KB3106614 - Error 0x80070643

    Hi all,

I have fixed Error 0x80070643 for the Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3122947) by running the following in the admin cmd:

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\c4a1b8896ce9fbfea96c1ee6890d52a5\windows10.0-kb3122947-x64.cab

After running the command above the update seem to have disappeared but I am having the same error (Error 0x80070643) while trying to install Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB3106614).

    Does anyone else experience this?

Winver tells me that I have Windows 10 Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.29)

    Thank you in advance!
