Windows 10 showing not activated after hardware upgrades

    Hello,

Last night I made a rather large upgrade to my system, Motherboard, CPU, and RAM to be specific. Everything worked fine that night, but this morning I have "Activate Windows" sitting in the bottom right corner of my screen.

Going to settings to Activate Windows gives this message:
"Activation failed because this device doesn't have a valid digital entitlement or product key. Error code 0x803F7001"

I preformed the free upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 if this effects it any.

How would I best go about reactivating windows. I read that a clean install should solve this problem, but I would rather not wipe my HDD if at all possible,

    Thanks, EvanS

The activation fails because you have replaced the Motherboard and the MS servers do not recognise your system. Try entering your W7 product key.

A clean install of Windows 10 won't do it because you basically built a new computer and Microsoft never offered to give you Windows 10 for a new computer for free. Like philc43 posted, if you have the latest version of Windows 10 installed (1511, build 10586.xx), you should be able to activate it by changing the product key and then entering your Windows 7 product key.

If you don't have your Windows 7 product key you can try to obtain it (if you have not done a clean install since the upgrade from Windows 7) by running showkeyplus from this forum:
