If you're buying a PC for a child this Christmas...

Probably preaching to the well aware with this audience, but...

Just bought a first laptop for my daughter for Christmas. Set it up a couple of days ago with the usual wait whilst Windows did its thing. Set up children's account etc -all was well.
Started it this morning just to check on the privacy settings and Windows dropped the 1511 update. This took 4 hours from start to end.

If that had been Christmas day I would have had a very disappointed daughter, waiting to use her new PC.

I will check again on Christmas eve for further updates before wrapping it up..

Do you have a very slow internet connection? On several netbooks I own with only dual-core processors and 1GB of RAM the update took 2 hours which is long enough. I can't imagine 4 hours.

Once installed, does it run OK?

Internet is 38Mbps download speed. I recently made a USB and did a clean install of 1511 on my desktop - that took a fraction of the time (including downloading to the USB).

On initial startup of the laptop there was no Windows startup menu - but after a reboot all seems well. At least I got that out of the way before Christmas
