Windows Update INSTALLED!!! AMD Catalyst Control Center on it's own.

I had done a clean install of Windows 10 and was just finishing the tweaking. I like Windows 10.

Yesterday, I had uninstalled AMD CCC and it's driver, downloaded the latest CCC software package, and just installed the drivers. I did not want CCC. All was well yesterday.

Today, I noticed an AMD folder on my C: \root (I had deleted this yesterday after the driver install). I then checked my Start menu and there was CCC. I clicked on it and it loaded. Windows Update history shows it was re-installed this morning...... I had just spent a half hour going through a clean uninstall and then just a driver install. All for naught, as it is now back.

I have lost control of my system. I cannot do a custom installation of a software driver package anymore? As if that wasn't bad enough, the "Programs and Features" program list entry for CCC is not even valid. No uninstall/change ability.

If I were insane and repeated yesterday, I would have to again use the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility to uninstall CCC. No use, as Windows will just install the whole package again.

Is this a known issue for other driver packages/programs too? We just do not have a choice of what gets installed on our system anymore, even if it isn't really a Microsoft Windows Update. Thanks for any replies!

Did you turn off driver and manufacturer app installation in Windows 10? If you didn't, then Windows 10 is doing exactly what it is designed to do - install the latest hardware drivers and hardware associated apps that are provided to Microsoft by the hardware manufacturer.

    Thanks NavyLCDR,

Didn't see that. Hey, what happens if there is a driver update? Do you get any kind of notification if this is set to Off?

Unfortunately, no, there is no notification. I wish they had the usual three options or four options: install automatically, download and notify, notify then download, and do not notify or download - like they used to in previous versions.

I'm running a couple of older drivers that work better for my older AMD video card and two network controllers on my desktop and so far Windows 10 has left them alone.

Yep, I wish that too. Thanks again!

Is it possible to switch off the device installation settings option for specific hardware types? I don't want to switch the whole feature off because it is useful but I most certainly do not want Windows applying driver updates for my GPU automatically (I would prefer to leave sensitive things like GPU drivers to be done when I am good ready). Given that Nvidia seems to release new drivers everytime the wind changes direction this could become an annoying problem and as many have found newer drivers are not necessarily better!

I just got AMD's CCC reinstalled again this morning by Windows Update. This is with having selected NO in Advanced Settings | Hardware.

I did go into Windows Update settings and clicked on Check for Windows Updates. In other words, I did manually trigger an update check. I would not think that would override the above setting on not installing driver updates. The fact is, Windows Update proceeded to download the whole AMD CCC package and installed it again.

You know, I think I was meant to learn to love all of CCC's features and just needed this "encouragement" to do so......

    Thanks for any replies!

I repeated the uninstall and the subsequent automatic Windows Update installation of AMD CCC again today. No way to stop it.

My question now is, if I go along with this and choose "Yes (recommended)", will Windows Update also start installing all of Lenovo's or HP's software applications which I absolutely do not want? Or will this just be limited to "driver" updates.
