You can install the update manually. Media Creation tool (if you select upgrade) will install the update for you (USB to PC): Windows 10

No, it will not reinstall your OS
Yes, selecting update will install the update
Yes, it takes a bit of time to do

There are people sill waiting for it.
I did not bother to wait for Windows Update.
Instead, I used the following link to download the new Media Creation Tool.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10

Once the Tool is downloaded, run it.
    You have 2 choices:
    1. Select the Upgrade this PC now option and installation will begin.
    2. Select Create installation media for another PC. This option will begin downloading the Windows 10 ISO.
Once the iso is downloaded, right click at it > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
    Installation will begin.

*** In both #1 and #2, you have the choice of keeping your files, settings and most of the apps, or you can keep nothing. You will NOT be asked for product key. Activation will be automatic.***

    There is a 3rd method......
Assuming you have a genuine Win 7 or Win8/8.1 computer.
You can burn the downloaded iso file to a bootable media ( DVD or USB ), and use the media to do a clean install in your computer.
You will be using your genuine Win7 or Win8/8.1 product key to activate.
