Win10 Automatic Reboot/Update even though I said not to.

I have Win10 pro and set to "notify to schedule restart" and "defer updates". Also have "give me updates for other MS products..." unchecked.

However, Win10 just decided to reboot the computer and apply updates. What the heck is this? I had a major session of work going on.

"Defer upgrades" refers to new builds, not necessarily ALL updates.

Since you have W10 Pro, use the Group Policy Editor to actually turn off updates, you can set the same options as previous Windows versions.

Thanks, they really make it difficult. It doesn't seem right that it is that challenging to prevent your computer from restarting randomly.

Unbelievable! I edited the group policy and and it rebooted automatically last night!

This is awful for productivity. Unbelievable MS.

Did you make sure to set it to "Do not check for updates"?

Well, I don't see that option. In group policy, in "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update"

I set "Configure Automatic Updates" to "3 - Auto download and notify for install"

I guess that doesn't do the trick though. How do I access the option you mention?

Can't hurt to try, but in theory "notify for install" should never cause an automatic reboot either way. I am liking Win10, but this is awful of them.

    ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING!

I set it so the above settings and I still got a RANDOM reboot. I have used windows since 3.1 and know what I am doing, but this is ridiculous. I am am doing everything I am supposed to stop this and I still get random reboots.

This is totally unacceptable and I lose all the work from a given session. Had zero problems on Windows 7. I have never experienced this in a any prior version of Windows. I guess Microsoft thinks windows is a joke for kids to surf the net or something. This is horrible for people whose lives depends on being productive. They should never force a random reboot on users where productivity is the priority.
