Thanks Dino.
Because this is a test version of W-10 I try not to use any registry alteration. I do let Microsoft know what my desires are.
When I do buy W-10 the mass of Bing goodies has got to have the ability of removal and stay gone until I decide different.
That is one reason I like to control what is or is not downloaded.
Where is this setting Mike?
I looked in all the usual places (folder search, IE add-ons) but can't find the Turn Bing Off button.
I think it was easier in 9841, but I can't recall what I did in the rls - all I know is I didn't have Trends on the taskbar search and I never went to the internet for searches.
If you do NOT hit enter (9860 search) the results are local only.
--> Results are a little slow - most people hit enter by habit, but it's more like searching in explorer where results start appearing as you type.
I also noticed that local results are displayed on the Bing page ... but I don't want the Bing page at all! Ever!

Automatic Windows Updates - I cannot change the setting on this machine, but ... there were two updates offered that were not automatically downloaded and installed.
When I checked update history, a Defender update repeatedly failed.
But ... I cannot change the setting re: automatic updates.

Selected the first help offer and then tried the Windows update troublshooter offered.
This initiated a download of WindowsU...diagcab from microsoft.com - saved that to Downloads and then clicked Open when it finished.
The WU troubleshooter opened offering WU and BITS fixes. I clicked advanced and unTicked fix automatically, clicking Next launched the TS (WU I suppose)
After the repair, I returned to WU and clciked try again.
The results:
The updates were installed
Not needed: 1 update
Checked for updates failed again!

Gave up on a defender update through WU and tried updating in Defender.
This pointed to a connection error, but it's more likely an issue with MS servers - I can connect to everything else.

Hi,
The custom setup in the beginning shows all of the options for search and apps if you used the express I don't you would see the option to use bing search but I would image it's in folder and search options or start menu properties I'll boot to 10 in a bit I'm messing with a sig right now![]()
Windows custom setup?
I'm pretty sure the 9860 bld didn't walk me through the setup questions. I'm almost fairly certain I had the Bing Beast under control in 4681 (prev bld). That leads me to conclude that the introduction of Phone features has changed how / where Bing is. I can't even get the settings on Bing.com to stick (off filtering instead of moderate, and suggestions - can't untick ... well I can, but it gets ticked again ... yes I'm logged on to my MS account).
If you can tell me the exact search options (in the exact location (Modenr settings, Control Panel Folder options, Taskbar properties...). I've looked at everything I can think of but nothing sticks / nothing unliks Bing from search results and or displaying trends in the taskbar search pane.
There might not be anything we mere mortals can do until the next bld. I'll wait for your post Mike before I give more feedback - I might have missed something somewhere.
Thanks
Bill

Might have to see if @topgundcp can kill it via group policy magic :/
My refresh install brought it back
If no group policy I'll kill 10 and reinstall
Yep I got rid of it the new build really is no different on the surface no pun intended
I'll wait for the new build to start again but the options are in the install you just have to uncheck all of the apps except for internet explorer and feedback app as far as I can remember :/

I understand why Microsoft is pushing Bing. What Microsoft doesn't seem to understand is many don't want Bing.
Their should be a simple way to remove Bing everything. I don't believe Microsoft will make it simple. This way the average user will always be stuck with Bing. Microsoft doesn't want the average user to even know their is a way to remove Bing.
I'm am as positive as I can be if the final version comes out with all that Bing B/S members here will figure out a way to remove it if one desires.
When I type something into the Start Search I do not way it to go on the internet. I want it to search within my system.
If I want to search online I will open a browser of my choice and do my searching.
I don't have nothing against Bing as a search engine as it does not trail others as far as searching and finding results but what MS is overlooking is human nature. More forcefully you push something, more of negative and opposite reactions you get.
Yep the only workaround I found to search the computer instead of Bing hitting the enter key is to hit the down arrow key first then enter to search the computer then your on the top suggestion :/
It's a silly default,
Post your feedback I did,
Remove Bing from the start menu search is the beginning of my feedback I doubt it will do any good Microsoft heads have their agenda
We might have to buy the Euro version because they would no doubt sue over this![]()
