I fear you are going to shoot me. as you are being most patient. I really do have about Win 7 N keys, about 6 of them and it will not take the keys. Perhaps the Win 7 disk will not take the N keys I have? I can give you the keys...wait a minute....perhaps the CD I have...is not an N system....

You can use the "Check product key" feature of Showkey (from this forum) to enter the product keys that you have and it will tell you what version of Windows 7 it is for.

Do you have a system image backup of WIndows 7 from your old motherboard? You could try restoring that.

Yes I do have it but there will be the same key problem I have none of this board because the board was different back them. I wish I had another disk but I've have a failure of a 500 MB drive and I have another on order.

Ok, on a backup...where am I supposed to put ShowkeysPlus and does it make any difference what version the backup is from and if the backup is on a CD or not?

Just save the Showkey plus zip file and run the exe file inside it. It should tell you what your Windows 7 key is and what version it is for. Run the slmgr /dlv and slmgr /xpr commands and see if they show you as activated via RETAIL channel, and if you have a permanent activation.

If those are true, then you can upgrade to Windows 10. It does not matter if the backup is on CD or not. If this doesn't work, I have worked out another solution for you.

Windows 7 activates with a product key, not with a hardware ID like Windows 10 does. I was just thinking if you restored a Windows 7 backup from your old motherboard, to your new motherboard you might be able to activate it because the Product Key should still be valid, and then you could upgrade that to Windows 10. If that doesn't work/don't want to try it, I have another solution that I can send you in PM.

The personal messages have stopped working for me and not because of quotas. Please write me here.
