One thing I noticed with this update installed is my Weather live tile no longer works. I tried reinstalling the app but it didn't make any difference.

I just looked it seeems like mine isn't live updating but it works otherwise , the others are still working here ...Money,Sports ,Photos and News .

I made a browser shortcut with a tile Icon I converted to .ico from an .png to the Weather Underground web site with my location on the start menu tiles it's pretty decent for local real time weather .

Here is what the start menu tile looks like only smaller in the center of a blue ( or whatever color you use) regular start menu narow tile with the Weather Underground Forcast and city location +zip. as a tile name it got that from the URL or you can edit it .

You can do that with any browser links or application shortcuts ,folder shortcuts or whatever shortcut you drag into the Windowws Start Menu folder and make your own start menu tiles .

Maybe it'll be fixed in the next Bing Weather app update as v4.5.168.0 of the app is older than the update. My store live tile only works when it feels like it, the way to force it to work is opening the app, swipe the live tile off and back to on which used to work but not anymore after this update.

Oh dear. DONT delete all those files. Clarification below:

    Laevus said:
You deleted everything with "flash" in its name... Like... everything? :O I'm afraid I could cause some problems...
    Flash - Album on Imgur
No I certainly didn't do that. I know where the files are by default, and go by the name macromedia. I didn't delete anything that wasn't Macromedia Flash/Shockwave player. The pictures you linked (thanks btw) no I didn't touch any of those files.
But you make a good point. Deleting all of those files would render the OS utterly useless (I assume) probably only a re-install would work.

I knew I should have been clearer, so just to clear up I deleted 1 macromedia file ins Syst 32 (it contains a few other folders and files). The same for WOW64 - deleted only 1 macromedia folder in wow 64. In additon, Users/appdata/roaming there is one folder in there. Sometimes two. I must have done it right for several reasons: Both full DISM scan and SFC scan and 1min Diagnostic scan all returned perfectly, not a single error. My PC works well again, and, most important, it enabled me to install the CU without any issues. I realize my case is somewhat odd, so please, no one follow that unless you have done the same to flash. Then extensively research Macromedia flash to find out which files only pertain to flash.
The ones that are missed often are as I said above, 1 folder in each sys32 and wow64, plus appdata/roaming - the users I mean. NOTHING else.

Anyway, thanks Laevus, I don't think anyone on these forums would be stupid enough to delete all those files you showed, but, yeah it's possible a visitor might out of frustration. So good on ya for getting me to make an accurate explanation finally. I should have done so in original post, I realize that now. Cheers!! :)

    Useful info. Thanks.

Someone asked what this update does? Well, it's a major update for Edge and Cortana as well as a whole bunch of other stuff it seems. My Cortana had been shut off, and it had a brand new icon. I had to set it up all over again and this time it asked me for a few more details. And now it seems I can open up apps with Cortana like I can do with the Apple Assistant and Droid's "OK Google". I'm actually pretty pleased with the update so far. I'm also in dictating this response through Cortana into Edge, they increased the interaction between Cortana an edge so dictation is a lot easier now.

One thing I noticed was that when I first installed windows 10 there were several updates daily for a couple of weeks. This latest update is the only update I've gotten for the last two weeks, there hasn't really been anything. But the improvements in the Microsoft speech engine seems to be well worth the update.
Hey XweAponX - great, that's the first clear and positive info about this update. I've never used edge (Chrome for me) and Cortana is completely deactivated. I'm wondering if I should revive her and get to know her. Is she really useful in the new form? Other posts all over the net mention various things breaking. I'm fine though. I don't know if it's placebo, but both my W10 PCs seem faster now!?! But they were blazingly fast anyway. Probably placebo. HeHe.

Any how, I am happy until the next botched update job.

Thank you for being precise, it was indeed really strange to me that it was necessary doing as I thought...

In the end I've solved! Since It didn't work with any other method, I "updated" the system from the same image. Basically I've reinstalled Win 10 choosing to preserve files and app. It downloaded automagically the updates before the setup, and then proceeded to install Win10 like new.

    Thanks.

Glad you finally managed it too!! Seems the majority of people are getting there now, but there are so many different methods/reasons etc. It's actually quite funny. Those who installed trouble free first time should be grateful. Man, I hope MS gets their act together with these updates. Trouble shooting this one was actually quite educational, and even fun - but - I don't fancy spending hours every month to install the latest CU.

Maybe the next build will be more stable in that regard. W10 does have a lot of potential to wring out of it. And except for the update nonsense I'm getting to quite like windows 10. Whoopeee!

[SOLVED] Problem using Windows Update to install KB3093266 - Win 10

    Cluster Head said:

    Worked great!

Thank you so much for providing these links so I could simply manually install the troublesome update.

I looked everywhere for this file and couldn't find it anywhere. Seems like Microsoft's site would be a good place but nope, no luck.

I used this file in conjunction with a script made by TenForums user Shadow Delta to install the .cab (CAB) file and it all worked wonderfully.

Here's a link to the utility and .cab files then a direct download link of the utility itself.

    Disclaimer:
Please keep in mind that I make no claims whatsoever that I contributed in any way to the development of this utility nor assisted in the location of the pertinent .cab (offline installer) files. As I said, the full credit belongs to Shadow Delta, Cluster Head, and no others.

Links to (full) offline installer KB3093266 CAB (.cab) files, 32 and 64-bit. Located by Cluster Head:
    32-bit KB3093266 Update file: http://t.co/6c8LmFisXB (221MB)
    64-bit KB3093266 Update file: http://t.co/sk416Gm9Kv (494MB)

Link to Shadow Delta's post for his CAB file installer:
Windows 10 update cab file Installer. - Windows 10 Forums

And if the link doesn't work for some bizarre reason, here are the downloads: (32 and 64 bit, make sure you get the right one)
In case you don't know which version you're running, here's how to find out:
Windows 10: Right-click on 'This PC' icon on the Desktop and select 'Properties'. If under 'System Type', it says "64-bit Operating System" then of course your system is 64-bit. If you don't see that text, you have 32-bit.
Windows 8/8.1: All steps are the same as for Windows 10 except you right-click on the 'Computer' or 'My Computer' icon on the Desktop then select 'Properties'.

    32-bit: Windows 10 CAB Installer.rar (485.1KB)
    64-bit: Windows 10 CAB x64.rar (503.8KB)

(Both files are tiny. Unpack with WinRAR 5+ or WinZip 16+)

One thing that I did, and I'm not sure if it matters but I did it anyway, was to rename the CAB files once downloaded to simplify the file names (Shadow Delta's utility has no such long file name problems. I'm talking about the offline installer files, 221MB and 494MB, respectively. They both have long, complex file names.).

I saw one post where a guy had problems with a file that had multiple points (periods). Example: My.Cat.Loves.Dogs.jpg so here's what I did:

Using the the 64-bit version of the Update file above as an example, the original file name is "windows10.0-kb3093266-x64_9b2f96010adf1b547157c79c8ad52bdb26815e0b.cab".

I shortened this to "KB3093266x64.cab" and then used Shadow Delta's utility (Windows 10 Update CAB File Installer) to install it.

    Quick and easy.

I have been looking for two days for a solution to this problem and all the "Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder", "delete the edb.log file", "command line stop then restart wuauserv, cryptserv, etc" did absolutely nothing to fix my problem.

The problem was, I admit, a little different to what others were experiencing. I wasn't having problems where the system installed the update then still wanted to run the update again and all that. My system detected that the KB3093266 was needed and would start the download and would stop at 90%.

I must have done this 6 or 8 times. Same thing every time. It would stop at 90%, then about 2 minutes later would say that there was an error named 'Error: 0x80004005'.

Clicked Retry button and same thing again.

Kudos to Shadow Delta and Cluster Head for providing a fix that worked for me!

    Still can't update with KB3093266

I've tried everything listed below, but keep on getting this windows update error:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8007371C: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3093266).

This is "SMI primative installer failed" error message. The install always goes to 100% with no errors, then on reboot it doesn't show any percentages when "preparing windows files" (before or after reboot). Any thoughts on how to progress?

    Done this:
    dism with repairhealth
    sfc /scannow
    deleted software distribution/download files
    delete windows update log
run the stand alone installer and the cab installer.
rebooted in "clean mode", no non-MS startup services or executables
