Otherwise you can manage open tabs nobody outside of devlopers or ADD folks probably needs 30 tabs open anyway , you can use the history tab > refresh open historty page tab as needed ( shift +F5) and things like that to go to something you had open or the hard way with bookmarks ☻☻.
RE:Almighty1I have that many tabs opened for a reason as I'm 5-6 years behind in things, history would not work as I'm trying to go through facebook notifications for the last year at 400-500 notifications a day using the email notifications so I open a batch at a time... I'm a developer, rocket scientist, I own and run a ISP so have a bunch of stuff to monitor plus there is the monitoring of investments which generates me a 5 digit income daily. 1 tab in chrome is not always one task as it's atleast 12 tasks/process even if you just had 1 tab opened as there are tabs for the extensions/plugins installed. There is a way to run everything under one process for all the tabs except the entire chrome will crash if there are problems.
Sounds like you might be one of those developers I mentioned that use a lot of browser tabs at once .
OTOH aside from that you are probably aware of the security and other advantages of Chrome for an avarage user .
Sure Chrome opens up lots of stuff depending .... and it's a memory hog .
For extensions I only have Ad block plus,Google docs and Google Peppeflash enabled so with 10 -15 tabs it's usually fine for me much more than that like you say it can start taxing your ram and slowing things down or even hang .
FWIW I have 11 tabs open in Chrome right now and 4 Open in Edge and my outlook e mail client and notpad all open right now it's all fine.
OTOH Just be glad you arent using Edge at 4 or 5 tabs it chokes . ☻☻
My daily driver runs 24/7 going on 5 yrs now ( it idles ofc when I'm not using it ) , it got half a day off for a new hdd ( it failed at 3 yrs ) and another short time ( maybe 2 hours or less for CPU and ram and CPU cooler upgrades about a year ago then another hour or probably less for sound and video upgrades and maybe a half hour every 3 mo. for internal cleaning .
Next thing is an SSD in here and maybe another metal storage dr.
I had an HP pavillion 3.0 GHz P4 I bought in maybe ~ 2002 by late 2006 it ate a hdd and PSU and ODD .
Never seen anything run for 20 yrs but we had a few 486/66 Digital eqiup unix boxes at work running monochrome text graphics that made nearly 10 yrs 24/7 before they got recycled and we got some newer boxes with GIU's and LCD color monitors but they usally ate at least one SCSI hdd or ODD or both in that time and some monitiors .
I left there in mid 2K's and retired since then so who knows what they have now hopefully not the P4's or Pentuium M's or whatever they were at the time ?
ofc in another 5 yrs I will be driving something else by then just because or maybe this one will croak who knows

I used to be able to run more tabs under Windows 7 which might be due more to being able to use the NPAPI Flash Extension with the PPAPI Flash Extension disabled and ofcourse the Windows resource hack. I'm actually trying to close more tabs but with so many things, I like to open up like 12 notifications from facebook at once and then close those and then do another batch of 12. What's funny is that it didn't make much difference between the 32bit vs 64bit versions of Chrome and I am using the Beta channel so it might be different. How many processes does Chrome open for you when you open just one tab? I have 7 tabs opened in Edge always. Windows still has the most applications available for it which is really the primary reason I am still with Windows for the last 27 years. It could use a better kernel. LOL.
Sometimes I wished things failed so I can go to Hawaii for vacation as the machines are so reliable that I am running the entire data center in Honolulu from my keyboard in San Francisco so if things don't break, I am not going anywhere. My Windows XP desktop on a P4C-3.2Ghz with 4GB RAM was really fast until 2009 when one day, it started acting like a turtle and even replacing the motherboard, CPU and RAM did not fix it. Too bad I need Symantec WinFax Pro which is not compatible with anything newer than Windows XP or I would have upgraded that machine. We had a DEC Alpha AXP once that ran WinNT 4.0 for evaluation and it was slow as heck compared to the x86 platform running WinNT 4.0. The AXP processors are really fast under Unix though.
Hotmail which was FreeBSD based entirely when Microsoft bought it was running FreeBSD entirely and then they replaced the front end with Windows Server while the backend was still FreeBSD until they completely replaced it. Microsoft used to have Xenix for their version of Unix before they sold it to SCO.
RE:
I can open 30 tabs in Chrome /Widows 10 sometimes more just like Win 7 ( in fact Chrome seems better and faster In Win 10 on this box .
I'm on Chrome 64 bit stable build but 32 bit runs fine also but if you you get crap like facebook on some long pages that keep piling in ads and garbage or some websites that just keep piling crap on to the web page a tab is open to thats when it gets to be a problem with too many open tabs .
Facebook is trainwreck of useless garbage anyway IMO and sometimes pages with lots of crap can take forever to load it would be better if Facebook didn't exist at all IMO. I try to stay off my FB page and limit the garbage ads and things websites can post there but it still gets in even stuff I heve no interest or prior relationship with .
They used to have chain mail now they have chain garbage aka facebook and I have give my page a haircut now and then .
I only use facebook for some minimum functionalities with othwer web sites or wordpress /disquis log ons .
Chrome processes :
This Chrome session w/ one tab opened one Chrome App ofc . and 5 Chrome backgound processes not using a significant amount of resources otoh with 15- or more tabs open it would start to hog memory in a hurry on this box , CPU is never a problem .

I followed steps in this post and it deleted all my updates! The update is running for an hour now! Now what do I do?
Immediately after I posted this a few minutes ago. I checked my Updates and this is what is happening now. Would it be best to manually download updates?
