I think my brother in law backed up my PC to my external when I put hooked it up a couple of months ago but he is offshore and I don't know how to use it or find the file and I'm scared to mess up my external
You got into Advanced Options when booted from a drive before, there is a selection for Safe mode, can you see if you get there without issues.Show you here again, select startup settings, be number 4 on list after that selection on your screen

Getting more serious this error 0xc000000f is boot manager error. Unless you did something wrong i swore before you told me you were able to get into the Advanced Options, just not able to do a repair, refresh or a reset because you received some other messages or errors. Also when doing this make sure that all external devices are unhooked except Keyboard and mouse. As i still may suspect hardware issues too.

Not sure of recurrence of going back to Windows 7 from recovery disc then trying to upgrade again to Windows 10 at this point. We are also not positive what the issues are yet.

When you were able to get into the BIOS what boot order did you first see, the main C: drive, not the boot manager,. Unless something was selected wrong when you boot from the flash drive, not sure of all questions to ask need to see more from you.

That true error is something that is corrupt and missing, most cases fixed with repair disc as first mentioned.

Is it on a black screen, without the blue ? Not able at all to boot from USB Flash drive ? Not sure if this is to do exactly with boot record or hard drive itself. As if we can not even do a repair or access anything through the USB Flash drive even other selection in Advanced options like i mentioned before Command prompt if look back at link i provided you showing pics of each part of it.

Enter the BIOS and know how to navigate, look for any thing stating fast boot, secure boot, disable those.

O.k. i understand. I started to realize since you were gone that if you do not have UEFI BIOS, then you can not boot to Advanced options, but you were not even able to do a repair from USB Flash Drive or get past it at the time. Think we might of believed the boot record was corrupted on drive. So what are you telling me, you wish to do a clean install of Windows 10 ?

If so not sure amount of partitions on the drive what it shows when you get to this screen. Is there only one hard drive or 2 ? Did you backup all important files to another device first ? Did you say you have Windows 7 recovery discs or i wonder if hard drive has a recovery partition for Windows 7 ? Want to make sure of some of this before proceeding.
