Windows Update multiple Install errors/Failure (error 0x80070643)

    Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone can help.

I have upgraded to windows 10 for a few weeks now and over the last couple of days it has stopped installing any windows updates, the error code that pops up is (error 0x80070643)

It's also stopping me from installing some other programs but not all.

I have tried restarting the computer, Nothing
I've tried restarting wuauserv service, Nothing
I've tried the troubleshooter for windows update, it says problems were found and they were fixed.
I have also cleared the cache for update downloads from the following folder:
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

In the Windows update page it seems to take forever to install the updates and then throws out the following:
There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:
    Security Update for Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 4.0 (KB2993928) - Error 0x80070643
Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB3080333) - Error 0x80070643
    Security Update for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (KB3045313) - Error 0x80070643
Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (KB3001652) - Error 0x80070643

Note: this is after clearing the cache in the above folder location.

If anyone can help that will be great as it seems to be affecting installation of other programs.

You can always try Protector's solution...

press WindowsKey+R, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
Click "Computer Configuration", click "Administrative Templates", click "System", and then double-click the "Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair" setting.
Select "Enabled", click check box for "Contact Windows Update directly...." - apply and OK

Type CMD in Search. Right click on it to run as an administrator. (You can also right-click on the start button and select "Command Prompt (Admin)")
Type the following 5 commands at the CMD prompt:

    >WSReset.exe (go back to the cmd screen and press ctrl-c to get the prompt back)
    >dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    >dism /online /cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup
    >sfc /scannow
    >powershell
    >Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Close the CMD window.
Check to see if the issue is resolved. If not, restart the PC.
Also, if that doesn't work, try downloading updates externally.

    Hi Hex,

Thanks very much for the information.

I tried Protectors Solution, it didnt seem to work unfortunately.

It has Installed the latest update for windows 10 today which is good but it is still showing errors for the above packs.

I then tried the manual installaton, thankyou very much for the links very helpful.
When trying to install these however I get the following message

Note: this is not just for the installation shown, it is also affecting other program installs as well

Oh, someone else had the same problem about an hour ago.

    That person fixed this error:

    1. Open Task Manager.
    2. Find a process, that is named "msiexec.exe" and end that process.

    It should work this time.

after ending tasks and starting again It now hangs for a lot less time but I'm still getting the errors for the following.

Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB3080333) - Error 0x80070643

    Security Update for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (KB3045313) - Error 0x80070050

I have managed to get another program to install after stopping all msiexec.exe and then running the install wizard.

I will try doing this and manually installing the update packs above

Many thanks for your help here Hex
