Is windows 10 pro ok. or full of constant updates.

Got a second hand lenovo laptop. Wanted ubuntu didnt get close to installing so on windows 10.
Normally old machines get fried with updates. is there less updates now? hate waiting? Or is it possible yet to stop updates?
Only browse and use for music anyways. Its just a spare backup.

    Hi, you can:
    a. stop all updates (described in multiple places).
    b. as you have Pro, set updates to 'Notify' in Group Policy so you only get a notification
    c. as you have Pro, you can disable Preview updates in Group Policy.

Typically updates are monthly - and will end in Oct 25.

You will only have a month before 10 is no longer supported. Install Linux Mint.

DO you not want to keep up to date with your safety and security?

Oh, it's a bit longer than that....

    Microsoft said:
Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date.

Who's normal is that? Certainly no my normal. You have been reading the wrong stuff about updates.

I have a HP Pavilion Desktop and it has been using Windows 10 since it was first introduced (about 9 years ago). It stays on 24/7 and gets updates about once a month. The updates have never interfered with the OS. I will be sad when the updates are gone. But maybe I will finally replace it with a W11 machine.

My W11 laptop, HP, use to run W10, but was updated to W11 when it was offered several years ago (Dec 2021 i think). I never had any issue with updates on the laptop either. My last update was 5/5/2024, because I postponed the earlier update until it was convenient.

Sentence 1 - wrong (a quick google will give you correct info).

Sentence 2 - no way ever. Why do Linuxians keep recommending an OS that just will not run a fraction of key apps used by Windows users.
