Error code 0x80073701 with updates KB5036892 and KB5036979

    Hello,

I get the error code 0x80073701 when trying to install the updates KB5036892 and KB5036979.

I've tried a number of fixes including

    Using the Windows update troubleshooter
    Disabling the anti-virus
    Clean up WinSxS
    and
    Reset update components

    Neither have solved the issue.

This is on a laptop running Windows 10 22H2

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi, you can try this:

    - and of course the routine no-brainer option is an in-place upgrade repair.

Naturally somehow there will be a way to diagnose and fix this, but that will likely take you and someone else a whole lot longer.

I note a very similar experience here for example (same error number) and success:

Thank you dalchina! I`ve already tried the first possible solution. It did not fix the issue unfortunately…

What would the «routine no-brainer option» be exactly..?

an in-place upgrade repair which keeps all accounts, programs, data - as per my post..

Tutorial available.. from the searchable Tutorials section. Short form (once again):

Download iso file using MS media creation tool.
Rt click iso, click Mount (available unless association changed)
    Browse new drive letter create
    Double click setup.exe

Note: always worth ensuring you have a current disk image before any major change.

I'm sorry dalchina. I misunderstood your post as three different suggestions.

As mentioned the first suggestion did not work, but the next one did. By upgrading the system I was actually taken back in time update wise. There was more updates available and installing than the two I had an issue with.

Nevertheless the issue is corrected and all updates have been applied :)

That's exactly how an in-place upgrade repair works.

    1. The iso file is always a bit behind the latest build number.
    2. Therefore using it takes your build number BACK.
    3. Windows Update then resumes- and brings you up to date.

Exactly as it should be and as I'd hoped.
