How to fix Update error: "...update components have become obsolete."

I tried to update a new Dell desktop PC that has not been used since it was purchased new for backup purposes last year.

I'm getting this error message: "Windows 10 update 0x8007000d... this won't let you install any updates for Windows and it also won't let you upgrade Windows 10 in case a newer version is available."

The update successfully downloads the version 22H2 update and installs but then stops with that error message.

Kinda like a "which comes first, a chicken or an egg" problem.

    Please help. Thank you.

    Here's what I found:

Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

Press Windows = R, type Notepad, and click OK.

Copy and paste the following commands into Notepad:

    SC config trustedinstaller start=auto

    net stop bits

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop msiserver

    net stop cryptsvc

    Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

    regsvr32.exe /s atl.dll

    regsvr32.exe /s urlmon.dll

    regsvr32.exe /s mshtml.dll

    netsh winsock reset

    netsh winsock reset proxy

    rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN

    dism /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth

    dism /Online /Cleanup-image /CheckHealth

    dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

    Sfc /ScanNow

    net start bits

    net start wuauserv

    net start msiserver

    net start cryptsvc

    net start appidsvc

Save this file as Wufix.bat onyour desktop.

Right-click on Wufix.bat and choose Run as administrator.

Wait for the procedure to complete on the black screen.

Restart your PC and check if the error persists.

    2. If the problem still persists, try using the Microsoft tool:

Download it from this link. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=799445

When you run it, choose to keep your files and programs.

Check for any errors during the update process.

    Omg.

Isn't there a better and simpler way?

Is the free update to Win11 still available for Win10? Is it a simpler option?

Given the apparent corruption you should first do the usual basic checks, so once again:
    a. Check your disk(s) - with Crystal Diskinfo or better Hard Disk Sentinel (SSDs too).
    b. If ok from an admin command prompt run CHKDSK C: /SCAN - scroll down to the bottom and check it passes.
    c. If ok, from an admin command prompt run SFC /SCANNOW

    Windows 10 update 0x8007000d
Searching for that indicates some damage to your installation, in particular to Windows Update.

Whilst you can try fixing WU in particular, there is, of course, no guarantee other damage hasn't occurred.

Turning first to Windows Update: You can try:
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
    - from the searchable Tutorials section.
This does something like that long list AmericanPharaoh posted, and more, packaged in a script.

Naturally there's no guarantee this will fix your problem, but you can try it.

    Omg.
    Some may find this offensive.

Whilst the free upgrade from Win 7/8.1 has been blocked, you may well have success.
The simple route requires your PC meets certain hardware requirements.
Most PCs can be upgraded using a workaround. However any build upgrade then requires the same workaround.
