    Update 2024-03 Cumulative Update (KB5035941) (0x800f0922)

Laptop overheated & original update failed to install. Have since tried installing several times to no avail.
Gets to around 99% then fails, undoes all changes.
    Tried:
    • CMD LINE - Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • CMD LINE - Dism /Online /Get-Packages
    • CMD LINE – sfc /scannow
    • Plenty of space on HD ≈ 180GB
    • Booting in safe mode & deleting certain folders (can’t remember exactly) where the updates are stored, reupdating.
    • Have tried updating around 8 times
    • Ran updating troubleshooter - no issues

    Hi,
    Tried:
    CMD LINE - Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    CMD LINE - Dism /Online /Get-Packages
    CMD LINE – sfc /scannow
    - and what was the outcome- did they pass?

Have you ever removed any significant system components e.g. Edge?

Note this is only a 'preview' update. I choose (via Group Policy) to never have these offered.
You may have better luck with the full CU - which won't be too long.

    Feel free to try
Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
(from the searchable Tutorials section - a more comprehensive version of
deleting certain folders (can’t remember exactly) where the updates are stored
If you cannot progress otherwise, you have the option of an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.

    Thanks:

    • Restore health took a while but said fine
    • Sfc repaired files
    • Get packages got some; no issues (presumably daily update since updated yesterday)

Had to resort to a repair upgrade in the end which fixed the issue.

Good- there are deep expert technical approaches to fixing such problems, but they cost you and someone else far more time than doing that.

Now, before something breaks, create a new 3rd party disk image (e.g. Macrium Reflect etc) and continue doing so regularly.
