    updating to win11 22h2 ver

ok guys i'm now trying to install win11 from the pc. the pc in the updates and on the taskbar and when i reboot it tells me it is ready for win11. so today i hit the button and let it do it's thing. i took forever as for some reason my pc does not want to run at 1gb speed when plugged into the lan network.

so i tried again and it just sets there doing nothing. so i just shut it down for now and will try later. maybe i have to wait now until it comes back and tells me it can now be downloaded again.

one reason i want to install win11 is i just got frontier 500/500 mbps fiber internet and my lan connection is 500 mbps but on the pc i'm trying to do win11 on it is sometimes 200 mbps on wifi and sometimes it is only 20 mbps. i tried every possible test with the network and if i get it on 200 mbps it will stay until the next day and then it reverts back to 20 mbps. the pc seems to be stuck on 2.4ghz and i tried forcing it to 5ghz but it will not go there. so maybe win11 will fix it. it can't hurt anyway.

the pc can do 1gb as when i starts up i see the 10 then the 100 and then both lights on and then it goes to 10. my guess is is missing driver but it has the 802.11a and ac and i understand that to be.

also i just looked at update history and win11 failed 0x80007000d was the code and then it turned off teh virus protection and i had to hit that 5 times to get it to turn back on.

i may have to actually do a reset on that pc. it may have a bad file. anyway i will play with it some and see if i can figure it out

    @corvairbob

This might help... try installing these patches... then try updating to Win 11, again.

    ========================================================================

Another way to update to Windows 11 is to do an In-Place Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11...
This is how I upgraded to Win 11. I did it way back in 2021 though.

Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect or AOMEI Backupper Standard
Making a backup is optional, but always a smart move.
    Macrium Reflect
    AOMEI Backupper Standard (free)

Get the Windows 11 ISO (Option #2), and save it to your desktop...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

Maybe @Brink has some more current info?

thanks my wifes pc just did the win11 install from the startup and the win11 shoes on the screen. it went fine and i just did one on my sisters pc the same way.

i'm just doing a complete reset as i think i may have some drivers missing and i will go after those before i do win11. this pc in question should be doing 1gb lan speeds. and 5ghz wifi it has the ability but i may have done some messing with it for other items and turned something off.

also i did have adp and ublock running those may have prevented win11. now they will be off and we will see. but because i was having issues with the wifi on frontier internet i want to first get that going so a fresh install will get me back to square one then i will figure that out. i may start a thread on that for some ideas.

anyway when that is done i will see if i can do that inplace upgrade. thanks

If it makes any difference... I only have 300/300 internet (Ethernet), and things seem to go very fast for me.

the cable i'm using will get the 5ghz on this pc i'm replying with just fine. that pc driver told me 802.11a /ac i looked that up and i'm sure it said that was for 5ghz. am i wrong? the cable is a cat5 cable and on the hub i get the 10 and then the 100 and i have seen both for the 1mbps but then it goes back to 10 mbps. now after the reset while it is doing the blue screen install the lights are both on for 1 mbps. so that tells me the pc can do it.

lets see after the reset it it can keep doing the 1 mbps speed. thanks

ghot. i have 500/500 and the wife's can get it and i get it on lan. and on the pc in question if i mess with the available networks i can get wifi up to 200 mbps and then in the mornings it goes back to 20 mbps. i did everything i could think of with the eero 6 routers. i changed them from the garage and family room so they were exchanged. and it works for a bit and reverts back. so i connect that pc to the hub here in the kitchen and it got to a whopping 90 mbps. so it has to be in the pc drivers. i will let everyone know after the reset what speeds it is getting to.

I can't help with that. I don't even use a router, and I've never messed with wireless.
I "can" help with getting on to Windows 11, but sadly, I'm.... wireless and router-challenged.

    You could also try this...

Just make a full backup of Win 10 on the problem machine.
Then just do a clean install of Win 11 on that machine. If you're lucky... the clean install may just fix your speed problem?

for what it is worth at this time when i started this reset i choose the cloud. the lan started at 10 then went to 100 and now is at 1000 i figure i may get a better install and see what speed the install will pick. just to see if the pc is capable of doing 1000 speed.

i can get the apps and programs back fast i have backups.

it is not that 200 mbps is bad for a 500/500 service i figure the is what the wifi will do but to get 20 mbps in the morning and have to jump thru hoops to get the 200 mbps back is getting old fast. when i have comcast i could pick between 2,4 or 5 but on the eero 6 router i do not get a choice it seems to pick what the pc gives. i can unplug the other pcs and i get the 200 mbps every time i get on the pcs. but the on in question seems to revert back to 20 mbps everyday. so this why i'm now doing the reset to see if by chance i had a bad driver. thanks

The good thing about the In-Place Upgrade is that after you download the ISO (about 6.4GB), you don't need the internet for any of the rest of the In-Place Upgrade. It's all done locally.

no problem ghot at this time the hub is showing 1000 speed if the left light is on it is 10 if the other light is on it is 100 if both lights are on it is 1000. or 1 mbps.

now i'm at 88% for the reset. and yes both lights are aon. when it reboots i will see if it goes back to the left light or 10 mbps. if it does then i may have a bad driver and will have to go looking for a good driver. thanks
