    Win 10 update failed.

    Already tried:
    1) Reboot.
    2) Manually starting BITS + reboot.

    What next? Thank you.

    Which update? Build number?

Search tenforums for recent posts on that error number and you will find many discussions.
Could relate to the widely experienced well-known Recovery Partition problem with a couple of updates.

A good number of threads already exist on this.

    See e.g.
    KB5034441 Security Update for Windows 10 (21H2 and 22H2) - Jan. 9

    and comments following.

You can hide the update if the underlying problem is related to the Recovery Partition if you wish. Tutorial available or use WUmgr (free).

    Hi Meeker Morgan,

There is currently no solution to the KB5001716 update (the one dated October 2023). There is a new version dated March 2024 that should go through. The only thing you can do at this time is hide the Oct' 2023 update if it annoys you.

    Kind regards,

the solution, for now, is to use the microsoft show or hide update tool, to hide the OLD, obsolete update that windows update is repeatedly trying to install.

here are instructions for using the microsoft show or hide windows update tool:

Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

    - this is easier.

Well it's some comfort to know it isn't a particular problem with my system.

I'm taking it as "solved" for now. The solution being don't bother about it until they fix it.

Is hiding the update our best path here? Is this not effective sweeping it under the rug? I have two hp laptops with this issue.
Are we waiting for MS to fix it or is it going to be something we need to do - ie resize the partition appropriately?

There’s a script to resize the partition here
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...a-726ebac6bbf6
But I’m worried about that going wrong.

There’s also a resize winRE guide which again I’m a bit hesitant about.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...9-24c8229763bf

Are any of the free partition tools able to resize the winRE in a more user friendly way?
