Is hiding the update our best path here? Is this not effective sweeping it under the rug? I have two hp laptops with this issue.
Are we waiting for MS to fix it or is it going to be something we need to do - ie resize the partition appropriately?

There’s a script to resize the partition here
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...a-726ebac6bbf6
But I’m worried about that going wrong.

There’s also a resize winRE guide which again I’m a bit hesitant about.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...9-24c8229763bf

Are any of the free partition tools able to resize the winRE in a more user friendly way?
This update issue KB5001716 has nothing to do with the KB5034441 update that you are referring to (which required expanding the Recovery partition size to resolve).

Apologies, it shared the same error 0X80070643 and a couple of mentions about the partion in the thread I assumed they were the same problem because it shares 0X80070643. My mistakes

I did not do anything else to try and fix it, but this morning I manually ran update with no errors.
But it didn't install anything but a Defender update.

Looks like Microsoft withdrew whatever it was.
    Marking solved.

Big update of the kind that requires restart dropped today with no problems.
Microsoft fixed whatever it was and case closed.

The last big update was 3 quality updates + malicious software removal tool.
Everything works fine as far as I can tell.

... which frequently did not resolve the issue for many users.

There is a litany of failed Windows 10 updates for various reasons and it's quite obvious that Microsoft has already started shutting down its interest in the continued support of Windows 10.
