    Issue with KB5001716 update on March 5 2024

    I'm running Version 22H2 build 19045.4123 Windows 10. I just installed the update KB5001716 today (Mar 5, 2024) on my computer and it seemed to install OK with no error messages. It even says the update installed correctly without errors in my update history. Then later I went into Windows update again and clicked on check for updates to make sure there were no further updates. That's when the problems started. It appeared to try and install the same update again that it had just successfully installed before giving me the message that there was an error encountered. It said there were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help (0X80070643). But why was it trying to reinstall an update that it claims had just been successfully installed and then give me this error message. Check out the two attachments to see what I'm talking about. I tried to reinstall this goofy update about 10 times using the suggestions to try when encountering error 0X80070643 but nothing worked. Has anyone else encountered this problem with this update. Let me know!

    I know MeToos don't get anybody anywhere but it is soothing to know that it's not JustMe.
    So: same here!
    What is odd is the date on KB5001716: 2023-10 Update - 4 or 5 months ago??
    (Cf. KB5034441, another ongoing annoyance: a later serial number and dated 2024-01.)
    The error notifications are less anxiety-inducing when it is clear that many users are suffering identically; but I have found it additionally comforting to use Update Manager for Windows v1.1b by David Xanatos (easily downloadable, multiple sites) and then check the Hide Updates facility for these two.
    (You can then UnHide at any later time to see whether anything has altered, but nothing yet after however many months of the problem with 4441.)

    I also have the same problem as you.

    KB5001716 update installation error which is supposed to be a very old update.

    Why and how can it be solved?

    - windows 10 version 22H2 (build OS 19045.4123);
    - I have already run Brink's tutorial "How to Reset Windows Update in Windows 10" to try to resolve the problem;
    - I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter which found no problems.

    Thanks in advance to anyone who knows how to fix this problem.

    Hello:

    Exactly same issue(s) here on:

    Windows 10 Version 22H2

    Update history shows KB5001716 successfully installed October 3, 2003. Yesterday, it successfully installed a March version of KB 5001716. I then ran WU again, and it encountered errors trying to install (or reinstall?) the October 2023 version of this very same update. So according to my update history I now have two versions of KB 5001716 installed. Yet WU keep trying to install the October version with download failure (0X80070643).

    I ran SFC and CHDSK. No issues found. Windows Update Troubleshooter found no issues

    Question 1:
    but I have found it additionally comforting to use Update Manager for Windows v1.1b by David Xanatos (easily downloadable, multiple sites) and then check the Hide Updates facility for these two.
    If I use this tool, will it continue trying to download/install this update, but I just wont see it, or does this tool "tell" WU to not bother with this update until unhide it?

    Question 2

    If I just ignore this error notification, will WU continue to install future updates, or does this failure prevent WU from proceeding with other updates?

    Thanks
    eli

    I'm having the exact issue on multiple Windows 10 machines. What's weird is that I can see from Windows Update history that the KB was successfully installed in October 2023, successfully installed for a 2nd time today, and finally failed to installed for a 3rd time today.

    Turned laptop on today recently and encountered this problem too. I don't know if i should hide it with the tool wushowhide and forget about it. I checked history as alex2364 mention and it shows up there as successfully installed on October 2023.

    Add me to the me too list - all 6 Win 10 laptops in the house. Yet another balls up from MS after dealing with the Edge issue last week.

    Interestingly this update was downloaded & successfully installed on all 6 Win 10 laptops yesterday. Along with appearing in the WU history as a successfully installed, it also appears in the control panel (dated yesterday) - it shows version 8.94.0.0.

    Today on the same 6 laptops, it downloaded again when I manually checked for updates (same KB number) & then appeared to stay stuck on installing 100%. Closing & then re-opening WU shows error 0X80070643 - pressing the retry button results in the same behaviour (error 0X80070643). It hasn't successfully installed today on any of our machines. I've hidden it for now (as I have done with KB5034441).

    All machines running 22H2 19405.4123.

    Well, I'll be damned. It does show up in Programs and Features:

    Strange since no other updates (except the redistributables) show up here.

    Kind regards,
