Yes it was seeing it in the control panel yesterday on one of our machines (I have the control panel sorted to show date installed at the top rather than name) that made me go & check the WU history, where I could see it had automatically downloaded & installed. On the other 5 laptops I downloaded & successfully installed it via a manual check of WU.

Different story today however ! As per my post above.

I got this also... 2 systems 1 laptop and 1 desktop

I did abit of looking around

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...0-b9551cfa6e13

Looking at this the MSI and CAB for Windows 10, version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2, and 22H2 are dated 28-Feb-2024
But the files cannot be downloaded

    Notes about this update

When this update is installed, Windows may attempt to download and install feature updates to your device if it is approaching or has reached the end of support for your currently installed Windows version. Feature updates offer new functionality and help keep your device secure.

After this update is installed, Windows may periodically display a notification informing you of problems that may prevent Windows Update from keeping your device up-to-date and protected against current threats. For example, you may see a notification informing you that your device is currently running a version of Windows that has reached the end of its support lifecycle, or that your device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for the currently installed version of Windows.

Note The notification will respect full screen, game, quiet time and focus assist modes.

Had the same problem, another botched update from MS...
    -Uninstalled KB5001716 in control panel.
-Used the wushowhide tool to block it from reinstalling.

I tried using the program wushowhide.diagcab (windows update show hide) to hide the older update KB5001716 Oct 2023 because it didn't make sense to me that Windows update should be trying to install an old update that had already been successfully installed previously after installing the more recent update KB5001716 Mar 2024 and then generating a failed installation error 0X8lly0070643 for the older version and a retry button??? So I ran the wushowhide program and it said it detected errors and repaired them after which I hid the update for the KB5001716 Oct 2023. I then rebooted my computer and opened the Windows Update in my settings. The error message was originally still there but after I clicked on retry it checked for any updates and came back telling me all my updates were now up to date and the error message was gone! Everything was back to normal again and my update history showed both the current and older versions of KB5001716 as being installed successfully. That's good enough for me!

Did some experimenting on a Win 10 laptop in the house that I don't care about & rarely use. I uninstalled the update from the control panel from yesterday & then paused & resumed windows update. This time TWO separate KB5001716s downloaded & installed at the same time, which was very weird. Showed as successfully installed in WU history & also appeared in the control panel again (one entry, not two). Later in the day I manually checked for updates again & sure enough it downloaded yet another instance of KB5001716, but this time it failed to install with the same error code.

So this KB has now been hidden on that laptop too.

Thank God, I'm not going nuts...

Same issue here. Pretty bad that Microsoft can't even double check their updates before giving it to the public. I found it threw up error 3005 on streaming Paramount Plus on Chrome webpage everytime it tried to install. Have paused all updates for a month for MS to get their shyte together. Has anyone reported it to them?

@Trishy1963 It's been reported several times the feedback hub, I've just thumbs-upped the relevant posts. Plus it's all over the Microsoft Answers forum.

They still haven't fixed the KB5034441 update problem, which has been around since early January. The workaround is not a fix, it's for technically able people & isn't without risk. The feedback hub is chocka with posts about that too.

I have this issue too. I ran SFC /Scannow and it found errors but could not fix them. I ran DISM RestoreHealth and it could not fix them. So I downloaded the Windows ISO and ran DISM with the source switch to use the install.esd in the ISO. After, I ran SFC /Scannow again and it found errors and was able to fix them. This took hours on my 2GB RAM laptop but did not fix the update issue. A web search suggested this

    https://catalog.s.download.windowsup...c94b634c4a.msu

So I will try that now.

Oh dear, not applicable to my computer, possibly because it's 32bit

the solution, for now, is to use the microsoft show or hide update tool, to hide the old, obsolete update that windows update is repeatedly trying to install.

here are instructions for using the microsoft show or hide update tool:

Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

Everything fell into place without any intervention on my part: mysteries of Science and Technology... at least for me.
