After 3 months since KB5034441 was released, it still won't install

I'll tell you - I've had it with that almost 3-month-old KB5034441. Regardless of what I do, it will not install - yet everything else does. I keep reading - from time to time - that a "fix is coming," or that you have to do this with partitions, or there's a piece of software you can download to select this particular upgrade to ignore (I downloaded that and it didn't work).

All I keep getting on my Desktop system is "2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441) failed to install, try again later... And it's been 3 months now.

Can this ever be fixed because it does hold up or lengthen the time ot takes to do Windows update? I'm running Windows 10 Home, version 22H2, OS Build 19045.4123. I'm running a very clean system, with my C drive being a 500 Gig SSD, with over half of it free for space.

As I mentioned, at the recommendation of some answers being provided, I downloaded this one small piece of software that is supposed to allow me to select which updates to ignore, etc. But it does not install properly on my system. No other issues at all with any other Windows 10 updates.

Will try one last time here to see if there are any viable answers...

    Thanks in advance...

I used MiniTool Partition Wizard to increase the size of the Recovery partition by 300MB. Specifically, I reduced the size of the adjacent, primary partition by 300MB and then increased the size of the Recovery partition by the same amount. A few clicks and one reboot and all done. The update then installed without issue. This worked on 6 out of 6 machines so far.

Thanks - but how does one do that with this software

I downloaded the software, and although I'm somewhat of an advanced user, I've never dealt with partitions or their adjustments or resizing. Where to even look for a recovery partition (and everything else)?

I took a quick screen shot of this software showing my C drive (500 GB SSD) - where do I go from here?

After 3 months since KB5034441 was released, it still won't install-image-1.jpg

From the looks of things, I may do an upgrade to my SSD - going to a 2 Gig version and then cloning my C drive to that one.

You can ignore disks 2 and 3.

On disk 1 it's the 583MB partition that needs to be enlarged.

Right-click the C: partition, select Move/Resize and make it 300MB smaller. You will need to click beside "GB" and select "MB". Do NOT click Apply at this point.

The "Unallocated Space After" should show 300MB. It should look like this:
After 3 months since KB5034441 was released, it still won't install-1.png

Click OK and then right-click the 583MB partition and select Move/Resize. It should look like this:
After 3 months since KB5034441 was released, it still won't install-2.png

Move the slider over to use all of the available 300MB and it should look like this:
After 3 months since KB5034441 was released, it still won't install-3.png

    Click OK.

Note that I already enlarged my Recovery partition, so my example shows a change from 949MB to 1249MB.

At this point, everything is just a preview of what will be changed.

When you're sure you've got it right, then click "Apply".

    Thanks...however,

Thanks so much for this detailed reply. Unfortunately, with my copy of the MiniTool Partition, it would allow me to adjust anything. Frustrating to be sure. All settings seemingly are set in stone with regard to my Lenovo PC.

I think what I'll need to do is to upgrade to a 1 or 2 Gig Internal SSD and just clone the information on my C drive to that. This will give me more space. Right now, I have a total of less than 500 Gigs on my SSD, with slightly less than half available space.

Sometimes it won't let you directly type in the size. First try moving the slider, then type in 300 (and be sure you've set it to MB). Otherwise, I see no reason why it shouldn't work. When you installed it, did you select "Continue installing free edition" or did you leave it at the "Try Pro trial for free" setting? I always use the free edition, but partition resizing should also work with the pro trial.

We're only talking about 300 MB (i.e. 0.3 GB) so available space is not the issue. You can leave this until you upgrade, but you'll still have to make the Recovery partition larger.

It won't allow me to move the slider...

If I hover over the slider, I get a star "*" symbol and it won't allow any movement left or right at all. I found that unusual. Then if I try to press on the arrow indicators on either end of the scale, it won't let me do that either - all it does is show the following type of symbol when I hover over the arrow indicator - "||"

I'm guessing here so wait for confirmation. I think that you'd need to shrink Drive C by the equivalent amount before you can resize (enlarge) the recovery partition for C.

Sorry, my wording was unclear. You adjust the slider by dragging the left or right arrow (right arrow to reduce the size of the C partition). And then you can type in 300.

Yup. That's the first step we're trying to get done.
