I thought 505mb was "large enough" but maybe thats not correct? I am also worried that my offset is 2794gb on recovery partition 4??
The offset is just saying how far into the disk is the start of the partition, that is the correct offset because there are three partitions totalling 2794GB before it.

I have resized the recovery partition on quite a few machines now, by experimenting I have found that the absolute minimum size required for this update to install is 680MB. Setting it a little larger at 1024MB should 'future proof' it should a similar issue occur later on.

OK thanks that makes perfect sense. I was going to try the Media CreationTool22H2, I see others have had success using it. But that wont fix the issue for next time. And I dont want to have to reinstall Win10Pro (even with the most current updates included) every time a larger update is released. So I think this is the best solution.

Can you help me with the script? Do I need to make any changes or use the one posted below as-is?

I think "sel par 5"(4th line of code) needs to be changed, right?
And "sel par 4"(6th line of code) also should be different.

    Also, line 11 [set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"]
    and line 12 [gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001]
are those ok? Or are they machine specific?

    Thanks again a million, Jay!

This is the info you had suggested:
You only have to know how to run "Command Prompt" as Administrator.
    when you see this:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32>
you are on the right way.

Then copy the following commands and paste into command prompt:
    step by step
    reagentc /disable
    diskpart
    sel disk 0
    sel par 5
    delete partition override
    sel par 4
    extend
    shrink minimum=1024
    create partition primary
    format quick fs=ntfs label="Recovery"
    set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"
    gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001
    exit
    reagentc /enable

The update will be installed successfully!

I've been keeping tabs on the MS KB5034441 article over the last 3 months, and MS have updated it to include a means of finding out if the WinRE is enabled using a single command line entry. So I followed the advice, and it is. But on my machine at least, it's not a partition but a large folder buried within the C drive. Windows disk management tools don't show this as a separate partition (I screenshotted this in the prior entries) but the cmd response path statement told me where it was, so I went looking. It took using the tree size app (free) to find it, and there it was: a folder buried in C, and enabled. No wonder it keeps popping up, and I cannot find it as a partition.

The attached images shows the updated KB article to include the cmd line info item - that wasn't there originally - and the command response overlaid on the tree size result. I've marked the latter image up to show the relevant items.

The sort of cmd sequences needed to fix this that have been published would challenge a guru let alone any user, and apparently have only marginal success. So I have no intention of trying. Waiting out MS seems to be the only option, and I understand the Kb can be either paused or hidden - how do I do either of those?

OMG, your a genius sir! That simple script worked like a charm, then I restarted the pc and the update installed perfectly, I'm sure the larger size will help with future updates as well. Send me your p@ypal and I'll buy you a beer! Very much appreciated and I hope it helps others too. Glad I didn't use the MediaCreationTool22H2 method.

    Great!
You can verify by this command:
    Dism /Get-ImageInfo /ImageFile:\\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition4\Recovery\WindowsRE\winre.wim /index:1

    You should get:
    Service Pack-Build: 3920

Your next step is to learn how to create a screenshot

    But you are a champion!

    @Pentagon
You are awesome and correct, build 3920. I also verified the partition numbers (par 3 and 4) on another Dell PC, used the same code script and it worked perfectly on that computer as well! Now I owe you two beers!

As for the screenshots, lol. Sorry about that, I have dual screens so the screenshots are 2 feet wide and I don't have any quick/easy pic cropping software installed yet.
    Thanks again!
