There is another handy tool called nsudo ( now nanarun). With Nsudo/nanarun you need to know what you are doing.
I believe the same developers who made nsudo also worked on dism++ which is a very useful tool better for the moderate enthusiast. I use it frequently. Should be in every enthusiasts toolbox.
