    Hello,

    You can use an option in the tutorial below to disable automatic app updates from the Microsoft Store app if that's what you meant.

    Hi,

    1. When I had Windows Update blocked to stay on build 1903 and avoid some troublesome updates being released, I used a script - Sledeghammer. That disabled the Store as well.

    However it was relatively easy to use a script option so I could then use the Store, and when I'd finished, again block updates.

    2. If you do not have Store access, then you can still install Store apps without the Store.
    E.g.

    3. If you had Pro (and you don't) you could 'block' Windows updates using group policy (set to 'Notify').
    The Store remains available.

    And thank you very much for taking the time to reply.

    Which? There are two completely different things there. You fail to make any distinction.

    I had no trouble with Sledgehammer- there are newer free progs and a script developed by Matthew Wai for blocking Windows Update (accessible to those who've been members long enough)

    The problem with most WU blockers is they use different and confusingly non-uniform strategies for shutting down updates. That's fine for blocking monthly updates, but some will break UsoSvc service so that Microsoft Store can't install anything.

    A less intrusive workaround is to Pause Updates for several years. This prevents monthly updates from being downloaded, but leaves the underlying services running for Store.

    I tried this reg file on a clean install, and Store works for new apps and updates.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    ; Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options > Pause updates > Up to 4 years
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]
    "FlightSettingsMaxPauseDays"=dword:000005b4

    ; Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options > Pause updates > Until January 1st, 2028
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]
    "PauseFeatureUpdatesStartTime"="2024-01-01T20:00:00Z"
    "PauseQualityUpdatesStartTime"="2024-01-01T20:00:00Z"
    "PauseFeatureUpdatesEndTime"="2028-01-01T20:00:00Z"
    "PauseQualityUpdatesEndTime"="2028-01-01T20:00:00Z"
    "PauseUpdatesExpiryTime"="2028-01-01T20:00:00Z"
